    Hi all,

I'm replacing my old Prius and happen to have €5k spare for another car. It's got to be:

Auto (absolute must for various reasons)
    Petrol (no more than 1.3l)
    Hatchback
    Family friendly
    Very Reliable

Yaris/Vitz is good (my wife has one), any other suggestions?

Also, any guesses as to how much I'd sell an 2005 Prius for? 200,000 miles on the clock, still works well, looks reasonable after a wash. NCT October.

When you say family friendly, how many people are talking about loading into the car? A Yaris size car is a good bit smaller than your Prius so might not be suitable if you had more than 1 or 2 young people to ferry around too. Also sticking to engines smaller than 1.3 litre will limit your choice.

Consider the Honda Jazz/Fit, they are roomy on the inside without being overly big on the outside, much more practical than a Yaris. 1.5 litre version won't be hugely more expensive to run over a 1.3 litre:

You’d probably get €1,000 for your Prius

Hi that's a good suggestion, thanks. It'll be for a family of 3-4.

Did a search on Donedeal using your criteria
    1.3 max
    Petrol or hybrid
€3500-€5500 (3.5min to weed out older cheaper stuff and 5.5 max as asking of 5.5 will probably sell for 5)
    Must have NCT
2006 minimum as I assume you want to at least go for newer than previous and finally automatic gearbox

75 cars returned, mix of trade and private, not sure if you had a preference, but looking through these, it would seem Honda keep coming up, otherwise it's Micras or Yaris/Vitz, which as already pointed out, might be a bit too small for family use

Looking at the list above, is there anything to be said for keep your €5k and keep your current Prius? They are an ok bus, assuming it's a Mk2.

The thoughts of getting out of a Mk2 Prius and into a k13 Micra or half the stuff on the above list and it costing me money too would really go against the grain.

That's exactly what I was thinking when looking through the list, although possibly a Honda Insight a few years newer, but apart from that, I'd be hanging on to the Prius too

Agree, there's not much to replace it. I treat it like ****e and it just keeps on going with the occasional slug of oil and essential maintenance only. Might just stick with it.

    Thanks guys
