Hi there. I recently planted 2 elder bare root trees, Sambucus nigra, and I notice that any time I see a little bud appearing it is gone again the next day. They are about 5 feet high with no foliage or branches and I think something may be eating the buds as they appear. Any ideas ?

Probably Birds, I think there is one that specialises in nipping buds off.
