I am considering a N+1 if the right bike can turn up.

Light weight high end 26r would be prefect. 9/10kg xtr etc

    Size 17/18"

    Thanks

I might have the perfect bike for you
    The spec is as follows
Giant XTC advanced sl Frame size M
Full Shimano XTR 9 speed x3
    Fox Float forks
    Mavic Crossmax SLR 26in
Easton carbon Sp&Hb and a Mag stem
    Weight is 10Kg aprox

Recently serviced including forks, disc brakes and BB
Needs a new chain and block
The bike in my opinion is in near perfect condition
I haven't thought about price as of yet, will contact a few people to get an idea of what to ask for but if it's not worth that much I will possibly hold on to it

Talked to my two mechanics, the guy who built the bike and the guy who last serviced it,
Both had the same opinion about the bike and were within a couple of hundred euro each with regards to the value of the bike
But they also both said it's a hard bike to put a value on because of the wheel size and because of that it probably would be a hard sell as 26in wheels are no longer used
They both put a value of between €1250 and €1500

Did they have a lot of bikes sitting around them:D because I can't see that selling for anywhere near that price. For some reason I can't open that pic boards seems to be running like a bag of ****e the last while but is it just a stock?

I'd have thought maybe €4-500, mtbs depreciate faster than a falling stone. They're right with it being a 26r you'll lose some of the market particularly on an xc bike they're all about the 29r these days. I'd have said the 3x would be the biggest issue most will want to switch to a 1x. Yes it's a carbon frame but an old carbon frame is probably heavier than a newer aluminium frame.

Here's one that sold 3 years ago for presumably his asking https://www.adverts.ie/mountain-bikes/giant-xtc-advanced-sl/10776818

    Seriously?

I have a Scott RC 29er with full SRAM XX which cost €7,500 a few years ago! For various reasons it's been used less than 15 times and is as new ..... it's now worth in the region of €1500!

Sorry for not responding, Boards is running like a bag of hammers.

Actually picked up a mint Specialized stumpjumper hardtail 29 for a good bit less than that.

I don't think I'd go back to 26" at this stage.

I’ll bet they wouldn’t give you anywhere hear that if they were trading in the bike against a new one.

3x9 speed XTR is old. 10spd XTR came out in 2011 so your bike is at least 10 years old if not older and like you say 26” wheels wouldn’t be very desirable.

Glad to hear you got sorted Whatwicklow, I'm not a mountain biker, in fact I've never been off road in my life but when talking to a few friends that do they all sing the praises of the 29in wheel
I myself feel that they look wrong, kind of like the wheels are too big for the frame but what do I know

With regards to the other posters, you of course are all correct the bike is 10/11 years old and for all the reasons you've mentioned it is no longer desired or wanted by mountain bikers like yourselves
But in my second post I didn't refer to price I would get for the bike but rather the value or more to the point my perceived value of the bike if I had to replace it tomorrow

Let me ask a question, if you bought this bike today and you were to insure it on your house policy what value would you put on it ??

The problem is most wouldn't buy that today atleast not for the price in your mind and even if they did it wouldn't be worth insuring. It's not to far off retro bikes at this point and in 10 years time it'll probably be worth more than it is now. Sorry to say but the price you were given is in dream land and if I were you I'd go back to the lads and sell it to one of them if they're confident of its value. I'd be confident they'll quickly back track on their valuation though.

You can slip a pair of 650b wheels with reasonable sized tyres on that frame and fox fork. That would make the bike a little more desirable.

A 26" hardtail like that would still be very very fast / competitive around Ballinastoe today.
