Poor water pressure in my estate

    Hi,

    I am wondering can someone tell me if there is a legal requirement that sufficient water is provided to every home. My estate suffers poor water pressure and often my attic tank empties and airlocks my system. It has been particularly bad lately but neighbours have informed me it has been bad for years. I contacted Irish Water and raised a case with local authority but because the estate is not under the councils control they don't want to do anything about it and was advised to contact the developer. Houses are built 20 years ago so developer is long gone.

    My question is though if I am paying local property tax every year and been provided with some water are they not liable to ensure every home has a minimum of sufficient pressure? I will see what I can find out from the residents association but just thought I would get people's thoughts here.

    Hi henke,

    Thank you for getting in touch and we're sorry to hear this.

    Irish Water are responsible for the maintenance of the public water and wastewater infrastructure. We aim to provide one bar of pressure from the public mains, which is sufficient to supply a two storey premise.

    The responsibility of the pipe maintenance for external supply pipes or internal piping falls under the remit of the individual landowner. If your estate has not been taken in charge then the mains outside your premise do not fall under Irish Water remit as well. This falls under the responsibility of the Developer or the Management Company.

    If you'd like us to look over the investigation results again, please feel free to send the below information via PM.

    - Your name;
    - Contact number;
    - Address, including Eircode; and
    - Investigation reference number.

    Thanks,
    Daniel
