I use them but over bales. They were the heavy green ones I got from Maizetech in bunclody. They weren’t cheap but they are a great job. The first 2 I got are about 12 years old now and still perfect. I pull them over the bales and don’t put any tyres or weight of any description on them. They just stay there under their own weight.

You've never used them on a pit though with one heavy plastic cover ?I'm wondering how it works with much less tyres

I’ve tried pretty much everything and it’s about as easy as it gets for covering/uncovering pits. All you need is tyres around the edge to hold the covers down from wind.
The covers need to be a minimum weight per square meter to conserve the silage. I can’t remember that weight...
