If you’re caught doing what you’re trying to do you’ll both struggle to get insurance again.

often would be the case that certain group cars wont allow certain age groups to be named on the policy and this is simply an underwriting stipulation that you cant get around with that particular insurer.
Liberty should do this for you.
Out of interest are you putting thru a reg that picks up the exact car details as often with VW Golfs in particular on the online systems a model of that car is selected inadvertently that brings thru a very high bhp and therefore knocks the young driver out.

    Fronting pure and simple.
the days of getting away with this are gone.
All claims involving young named drivers are rigorously investigated and if its found to be fronting there will be no settlement paid.

Why dont you get a policy on your own car that has open drive?

Brazen attempt at fronting. You simply won't get away with it. And if you do, the cover won't be worth a feck to you when you have an accident. Insureres will pull the cover.

    Hi lads ,

My dad is looking to get a VW GTI soon, car will be in his name but he wants to put me as a named driver as I may have to use it sometimes just like he is on my own car.

He is getting a quote himself not really a bother as he is “experienced” on the road but when he goes to add me as named driver they won’t quote him online anyways.

I’m 20 years old myself had full license for 3 years , 2 years NCB now. I understand I’m younger but is there any tips for me to be able to be a named driver on this insurance.

    Thanks

It doesn't matter whether you are the main driver or a named driver, the insurance company sees you as too high a risk to cover you to drive such a car. What you are attempting is known as fronting in the insurance world where the named driver attempts to get cheaper cover by nominating someone else (usually a parent) as the main driver when in fact they are not. Even if you managed to get cover under those circumstances, if you a claim made against you then it will be your father's no claim bonus which will be hit which will impact the cost of his insurance on his own car as well as him losing some if not all of his no claims bonus.

There is no short cut or fast way around it, you will have to do what the rest of us had to do at your age which is wait another few years until insurance companies will cover you properly for a reasonable price under your own policy and build up your no claims bonus. It's not what you want to hear but I'm afraid it's the only way to do it legally and proper.
