I was after a budget 55 inch for the kitchen.
Got this from Richersounds for €350 delivered with a 6 yr warranty and it was delivered the next day.

    https://www.richersounds.com/linsar-55uhd8000fp.html

For what we went and what we are replacing its perfect. Pleasantly surprised at it. Using a Firestick along with it so dont use/need any of the gimmicky smart features.

You must have some kitchen if you need a 55inch tv. We’ve a 55inch in the sitting room & the war machine hates it. Thinks it’s obscenely big.

    Guessing it doesn't have Soarview?

The Spec says Freeview & that is the UK equivalent of Saorview for the the UK channels only, it doesn't tune the Irish free channels.

Yes it will have freeview plus with all the uk catchups. Can't change dns setting on the TV so will have to do it through the router.

I have the 32 inch with the same software. Good picture decent sound. Although I wouldn't pay 400 for the bigger version.

Can you tune in Irish Channels on the Linstar?

Freeview is a the signal that comes to the TV over a TV aerial in the UK.
Most TV manufactures will just install a fairly standard digital decoder in the TV to facilitate this.
In most cases this same decoder will work with Saorview

You’d lose that bet. All day long.

Why? I have purchased two TVs from the UK and both were labelled to have freeview and both work fine with saorview even though it is not mentioned on the TV or in the manual.

Most countries use a very similar system for digital TV and most standard digital decoders will work in a large number of countries.

    Google UMC Slovakia Capacitors

Majority of TV sets these days are made by UMC or Vestel

Saorview will tune in on these TVs at channels 801-811 and you'll have to manually move them.

The only manufacturers still building their own TV sets are Sony, LG, and smart models Panasonic and Samsung.

For a little bit more money you'd get a decent enough LG from Argos, Currys etc

I have one TV here I bought from the UK and it's labelled Freeview & it most definitely won't do Saorview.

Which brand? Sony and LG have worked for me. And as Grab All Association says all the small brands that have their TVs made by UMC or Vestel will work.

It's a Samsung but it is a few years old at this stage.

It will have Saorview, note the Saorview logo in the picture and the T/T2 tuner in the spec. Probably manufactured in the same or similar factory as the Walker/Toshiba/Nordmende models that all work OK with Saorview.

I purchased a 32" TV in Lidl 9 years ago this month, pre Saorview launch, still going strong in a bedroom.

Apologies, must have been drink. You’d win the bet. It’ll have a DVB-T option which in effect will get you saorview just fine :)

This isn't a bargain, just getting what you pay for. You can get 55" TV's anywhere for this price or occasionally cheaper from JVC/Walker/Hitachi/etc. At this point they're all the same and are either made by UMC or Vestel.

    Oh FFS

Most every TV imported into this country for years has been Freeview spec, with the Freeview logo splattered all over the box it came in.

Even many older bog standard Freeview sets with DVB-T, MPEG-4 & MHEG5 are receiving DTT perfectly well without DVB-T2.

    On what basis?

Anyway, put your money where you're mouth is for charity so dodzy.

    I'm happy to do so.

I'm not saying this set is officially listed as Saorview certified btw, I'm saying Irish terrestrial channels will be viewable on this set.

Saw that and tried to do some research by comparison. https://www.currys.ie/ieen/tv-and-home-entertainment/televisions/televisions/sharp-4t-c55bj4kf2fb-55-smart-4k-ultra-hd-hdr-led-tv-10204662-pdt.html 55 inch Sharp from Currys. Sale price of €379 which ended, or did it on 2/4?! Might find a different story at checkout... Again it's a case of freeview, which has me a little concerned I'd have issue with Saorview, though from reading above it seems not. As the geography seems to matter, this telly is currently for my bedroom and will later be fir my living room if I can move out of this rented room and buy a house. (Who knows maybe I'll stick my 32 inch, 13 year old Tevion in the kitchen) I'm not beyond putting time in at initial setup if necessary, but I dont want to have to continuously jump through hoops on a daily basis with my 'forever TV'.

Thoughts and prayers on this one? Sharp well off the boil, LG all the way? Or worth the punt/euro?

Honestly looks equivalent to op post but has more detail.
    Concerns
-60hz refresh rate. Really would like to be looking at 120hz on TV's nowadays. Doesn't need to be higher but it even camera phones are now recording at 120-240fps. So few still offer higher for budget prices. Lidl one probably has same.
Higher is going to be mainstream soon in my opinion. (60fps already is in heavily)
-Ask in-store about dvb tuner for Ireland if you want. The lidl one is saorview capable. (Dvb-c). Yours doesn't specify.
-Samsung apparently have the best screens tho. Both these are sharp. I won't comment on this. I reckon all companies are getting their screens from a handful of companies worldwide and there are probably few differences.
    .
    Positives.
-Hevc capable is very nice. Especially coupled with apps.
-Sharp also I believe use Android TV (but confirm) so you can stick a huge array of apps on it (basically anything you can get on your phone). I hate the Samsung tizen os.
    -55" is grand.
If this supports 300Mb/s internet speeds, you can stream remux 2160p bluerays on a huge selection of apps you can install on the tv. Movie night with your own personal cinema sorted.*probably need to add sound system.
-Not overly expensive. You won't regret buying a new TV in 3-15 years if you want to upgrade again
