    Hi all,

Hope you are all keeping safe and well in these strange and difficult times.

I am working from home for my employer the past 6 weeks, and likely to be for the next 3-4 months.

I am thinking of buying a new laptop to allow me work more efficiently, and just wondering if a) the company has any obligation to provide on or b) if I can claim back the cost (or part thereof) if I pay from my own humble wallet.

    Any information appreciated.

    Thanks
    Paul

Company isn't obliged to supply the equipment unless it's in your contract. However you would think they would try to ensure they can assist you with working remotely.

Regarding claiming any tax relief on expenses for eworking, the below should assist you.

"If your employer does not make this payment, you can claim for allowable expenses"

    Whats an allowable expense?

The expenses you incur working from home that you otherwise wouldn't. It's really just a portion of your utilities that you'll probably be able to claim. The link above will assist you with your claim.
