Love is the drug...

I was talking earlier to a guy who was in a rather successful tribute band. They use to do three nights a week flat out. He was saying that, at that time, it was like a drug, he loved it, he was so focused, he never drank, did drugs etc but since its ended he drinks more etc because he doesnt have that preoccupation anymore. He said he felt happier when he was in the band, touring etc.

Anyway I know a guy who loves a bet. Would never gamble outside his means but would put on a fair amount if he has it and a little bit if he doesnt. Hes not a drinker and doesnt smoke, just loves his bet.

Personally I'm a bit of a binge drinker. Drink every two to three weeks sometimes abstain for longer but love a good session. Drugs never did anything for me or appealed to me. Also music is my drug. Sounds better with a few drinks too :/:D

I know some people get addicted to more positive things and I can go through phases of healthy eating, exercise etc also.

So what's your "drug"? And does everyone have one?

Drink is a drug and that's fine. Nothing wrong with drinking in moderation, same with other drugs.
    Binge drinking is unhealthy though.

    Duh...

Don't beat yourself up. Others make the same mistake.

You do some binge drugging every couple of weeks. It's a common practice.

What's so bad about your lot in life that you have to feel bitter towards others? I never thought I would tell anyone this but you could probably benefit from reading some Jordan Peterson. Underneath all the misogyny and nonsense, he actually makes a very good argument for taking control of your situation for the betterment of your own life.

Neurologically, for whatever reasons led to this, you're conditioned to need and expect certain hormones, in your case cortisol and adrenaline. Using Cognitive Behavioural Therapy you can recognise situations where you feel hatred and ask yourself why, and channel that energy into something positive. Replace them with dopamine and oxytocin so you feel good instead. It sounds simple, but it takes a long time to achieve.

That said, personally my coping abilities are in the toilet at the moment, so around once a week I get absolutely sh!t faced. Generally day to day things are grand, but no live music for the foreseeable makes me depressed. An aul lad I played with passed away the other day and it just hit me like a tonne of bricks that we couldn't get together and have a massive session.

I miss partying. Start on Friday in town, back to some gaf and on until the morning when all the lightweights crash and there's just the class people left, having a laugh until we get a whim to get to the pub and go mad again there, flat out until we all die a death in the wee hours of Sunday. What's left of Sunday after waking up is often spent dealing with some of the major philosophical quandaries of our time before going and falling into real bed, then regret every decision made on Monday morning.

Given the title of the thread, I hope it was a Roxy Music tribute band...

So what's your "drug"? And does everyone have one?

Physical training of any kind. Exercise. Martial Arts. Dance. Tai Chi. And more.

Anything that gets me moving and pushes some physical aspect like strength, endurance, balance or coordination to new limits.
