    Hi all,

Was just looking for some advice. Whilst in work I was exiting the car park which is accessed via swipe card. I pulled up to the swipe card point, but was too far away from it so I put my car in reverse. I had checked around me and my way was clear initially. Very quickly a second car who was parked near the exit of the carpark pulled up behind me and our cars tipped.

There didn't seem to be much damage done, bar a small dent and some paint transfer on the other car, with mine the sam

I gave the driver of the other car my name and number and got a message today saying they had noticed a bigger dent and scratch on the car, I replied with the fact that mine had the same damage and got quite an abusive message back. I do believe the tip was 50:50 as I was checking my mirrors around me as I reversed, but they had approached me so fast and were so close that the tip was really unavoidable.

Does anyone know what is best to do here? I don't really want to go through my insurance for this as I have 12 years no claims that will probably be affected- but don't particularly feel like admitting liability as I do believe it was 50/50

Might be no harm to see if there is cctv covering the point of impact .. try get it . Did you take any photos ? Photo your damage now , and take written notes of what happened now , sign and date it. ( contemporaneously)

Unfortunately you see politicians recently amongst others putting in spurious claims .. for little tips like this ..

Don’t enter into any other correspondence with other party. Keep that abusive text.

It’s a waiting game now .... problem is really it’s out of your hands.
Insurance company deal with this matters as they please if it goes that far.

You may have to send a report to your insurance if he claims damage etc... hence , have your notes taken to refresh .
    Best of luck.

Unfortunately no CCTV- but as I said I do think it was 50:50. To be honest I am happy to forego any claim, my car is only 3 years old- but the damage is quite minimal as was to the other car.

I will detail my notes on it, just in case. Thank you.

They have you.... Best bet really is be nice and civil and pay for the damage....

You reversed into them that's it!!!

Ask them what's cost as you would like to pay and obviously for as best a price as possible....

Can’t see it being 50:50 if you were reversing and didn’t see the car hitting you.
How far back did you reverse?

I honestly am not familiar with claims, would it be this simple? They had pulled in quite fast from a space and I couldn't go forward due to the exit being blocked. Perhaps it's not 50:50 but they kept progressing as I was reversing not leaving adequate space- I could be completely wrong though.

Very little distance, less than half a cars length

Not talking about you !!! The other party may make a claim from you. You reversed into them , having said that , they should have been well back from you, in the event something should happen as it did. I wouldn’t be writing any cheques yet !!!
