Turning LG Smart TV to Android system

I am using LG smart TV (2017) but it doesn't allow me to install certain apps like Crackle, Hulu, Hotstar, etc.

What's my best and cheapest bet to get Android system for the TV? I understand Amazon Firestick is an option but its costing 50 pounds.

    Any suggestions much appreciated!

    Thank you

The fire stick is your cheapest option. Best option is probably an Nvidia shield but are much more expensive

What would be the main difference between Firestick VS Nvidia Shield? Is Nvidia shield faster and easier to use? More RAM?
I am happy to invest If Nvidia shield has much better performance. But please note I will be using it for only watching TV.

Also, what's your view on Roku Premier? It's 20 pounds cheaper compared to Firestick.

If your just using it for TV streaming get a firestick. We're using the 4K one on a TV upstairs and I'm delighted with it.

Thank you. I will stick to Firestick then.

Is there any bargain on firestick that you maybe aware of?

Amazon mostly sell it themselves. It's rarely been sold via a third party.

Roku would be my choice. Their €40 device works brilliantly and is great value for what you get.

Does it run as fast as Firestick?
And are you talking about Roku Premier which is 39.90 pounds on Amazon site?

This device. Do not know if it's faster than Amazon but it's certainly not slow. The menu switching and navigation is seamless and you can also control from your phone.

Don't bother with the standard firestick. Get the 4k one,yes it's dearer but a world apart performance wise.
You'll need a VPN to access a lot of content you mentioned.

Stream and tech on YouTube do good tutorials that are centred on firesticks.
Let's crack on is another that does tutorials and reviews (plus dad jokes)

I just stumbled on this thread but badly need to throw my virgin media tv box out the window... and then smash it with a hammer.

So if I have a Roku or Amazon Firestick I can install a VPN app on it, is that right?
    I have NordVPN .
Can you install other android apps on either of these sticks?

I have SmartDNSProxy, would this be ok instead of VPN?

Sorry I am new in this field and don't have much knowledge.

Thank you for all the help.

You can't install Android apps on a Roku device - it has its own proprietary OS and channels and I don't believe there are any VPN apps for them either so you'd need to run a VPN on your router instead.

It's possible to install some Android apps on the Amazon Firestick - there are plenty of tutorials online for it

Very locked down from memory, and impossible to sideload apks on to them as they're not android based.

Well, they were the last time I had a go, but haven't researched it since so might well be talking nonsense, but there's a reason they haven't become anywhere close to being as popular as the firesticks.

Edit pretty much what pizza head has just posted before me lol.

    Thank you everyone.

So at present I am using SmartDNS Proxy and able to screenshare from my android mobile to the LG smart TV. I haven't ordered Firestick yet, but I am hoping to order it if there are any deals going on. I remember last month there was a deal on it and I should have ordered back then! :)

Just to add, go the extra tenner and grab a 4k one, they're pretty much the best value for money streaming devices going.

The shield is obviously a much better specced device, but it's also way more expensive (but still worth it imo)

So I have finally got the Amazon 4k fire stick.

Is there a thread on Boards highlighting the full potential of Amazon 4K fire stick?

I see the fire TV stick getting a lot of praise on here but given the choice i'd always go for a xiaomi mi box 3 or xiamoi mi tv s box. Dedicated android for TV so no clunky menus and the one big selling point over the fire stick is it has chromecast built in so you can cast from your other devices to it.

You can usually pick them up second hand for around €50. Slightly less transportable I guess than a TV stick but that wouldn't bother most. Xiaomi are releasing a mi TV stick but it's not for sale yet and the leaked price is around €70.
