Pleasant, fun, exciting places in Ireland for a holiday

I was just dipping into the misery of the latest 'crap towns in Ireland' thread, and thought we might do the opposite for once.

I figure holidaying abroad is likely off the table for a while, and I reckon many of us will need a holiday after the stress and worry of this pandemic bollix. Anyone recommend anywhere in particular? Don't just name a place. What's nice about it? Nightlife? Good restaurants for a small town? Boat tours? Craft fares? Ornithology? Burdwatching? Stuff for kids? Hiking and scenery? Friendly local sex dungeon? Great drives? Fun dives? History and culture? Local festivals? Slight overabundance of shoe-shops? Distillery tour? Whatever you're into.

Different people like very different kinds of things, so there's not much point carping on about how you went there too and it was rubbish, unless you have specific criticism. "That place is ****e" is less useful than, "That boat tour was exhausting: we had to take turns rowing and bailing after the 1930s-era engine broke down, so I nearly missed me appointment in the sex dungeon, which turned out to be two bewigged and elderly ladies with a well-worn pair of fluffy handcuffs and a no refunds policy."

    Dear mikhail,

The lakes regions of Cavan offer splendid opportunities for coarse fishing. Fine carp, bream, tench and roach to be found for the enthusiastic angler.

If you can get in with a local hunt, there are some excellent opportunities for a gallop with hounds in Kilkenny, Kildare and Tipperary.

Many of the stately homes offer decent rooms, fine food and the chance to engage in country pursuits such as pheasant and snipe shooting, clays or falconry.

I can recommend Woodbrook House in Enniscorty. The FitzHerbert family run a great show and the hired beaters are excelleng and know their stuff when it comes to hunting snipe.

    Regards,

    Russell

Could you give us more details about the sex dungeon facility? That sounds like fun
