Bachelors Walk is on RTE2 right now. Quality is very poor. I know it was made in the 90s, but still. Probably should have been left as 4:3 as the crop is doing it no favours.

And what is with those hairstyles, so, so 1990's.

So weird to see someone smoking in a pub in Dublin. Forgot how irritating and intrusive the music was in this show, especially the irritating jazz elevator music.

Actually this first broadcast in 2001. It's almost like RTE are showing the DVD version, but cropping it to fill a 16:9 screen.

    Was a great show though.

I was 17 when this came out and thought it looked very modern and edgy at the time. Looking at it now though makes me realise it's aged like milk. Yet I still love it though!

Ah it was a great show. Loved watching that episode again.

It was never aiming to be edgy.

    Opinions vary.

The show was released on DVD and is in widescreen as it was filmed in 2000/2001. Don't think there is any cropping going on for this, it's just how it was made as the makers were likely going for a certain style/aesthetic.

I didn't see the show but was it definitely cropped? RTE generally stretch their 4:3 output to 16:9 on the HD channels rather than pillarboxing them (as every other HD channel does).

Maybe it was just archived poorly? Looking at it on RTE player just now, it seems the same as how it was broadcast on TV on Monday (smearing, some pixelation, edges not fully filling a 16:9 screen).
