Build for my parents

    Hi all,

My parents laptop is about to die and I've some old parts from a previous build that I could use to replace it with a desktop. It's going to be general light use but I want something that will last them a good few years and something that's going to be straight forward to set up and not going to give them, (and in turn me) headaches.

I am looking at the Ryzen 3 3200G and the ASUS PRIME B450M-A - primarily as it's listed as 3000 series ready and I don't have another processor to update the BIOS.

I can't post links but here is what I have. I would be interested in any recommendations, particularly around the wifi card.

    AMD Ryzen 3 3200G 3.6 GHz Quad-Core Processor £77.98
Asus PRIME B450M-A Micro ATX AM4 Motherboard £69.98
    G.Skill Aegis 8 GB (1 x 8 GB) DDR4-3200 Memory £43.00
Fractal Design Core 1100 MicroATX Mini Tower Case £34.97
    D-Link DWA-582 PCIe x1 802.11a/b/g/n/ac Wi-Fi Adapter £27.93

    1. What is your budget?

    Up to 600 EUR

    2. What will be the main purpose of the computer?
Just browsing, email, youtube, netflix, printing.

    3. Do you need a copy of Windows?
    No

    4. Can you use any parts from an old computer?
    Yes,
    Corsair PSU GS600
    LG DVD brander GH24NS95
    WD HI 3.5" 1TB Caviar Green 5400RPM
    Dell Keyboard and mouse

    5. Do you need a monitor?
    No

5b. If no, what resolution is your current monitor and do you plan to upgrade in the near future?

It's a standard Dell 24 inch, not planning on upgrading

    6. Do you need any of these peripherals? [Keyboard/Mouse/Wireless Card/Card Reader/Speakers/etc.]
    No

    7. Are you willing to try overclocking?
    No

    8. How can you pay?
Bank transfer, paypal, credit card, cash

    9. When are you purchasing?
    In the next three weeks

Just get an A320M. There are a few on Amazon verfied as 3rd gen ready, though realistically at this point almost all A320M/B450M stock has newer bios available. There are Asrock A320M's on Amazon for about £40 that are 100% guaranteed though.

Use the £30 saved to at least get a 120GB SSD boot drive. It will make a massive difference to the speed of the machine.

I would probably spring for a 3200G now. For the sake of a few quid this will likely do the parents for a decade.

My parents are still using an i5-2400 I gave them.

I think I'll do that. Will spring for a 500 GB SSD and leave off the second hard drive.

What do you think on the WiFi card?

I pulled the trigger on this so should have it by middle of next week. Went with a 500gb SSD as there wasn't much difference in price to a 256 gb

Finished this off last night, fractal case is really nice, if a little tight. As Homelander said, the A320M didn't require any BIOS update so all in all was very straightforward.
