Question on Drug Payment Scheme

    Hi

I've just been issued with a Drug Payment Scheme card (issued in April)

I paid €80 for a prescription the start of April before I was issued a DPS card.

If I was to go back to the chemist, will that €80 be taken into account (assuming what I got is covered in the DPS) and I would only have to pay €42 for the remainder of the month (assuming the items are covered in the DPS)

Or would I be starting at €0 and would need to request a refund down the line should I go over the €124?

    Thanks

Doesn't read like a pharmacy could include in the scheme any prescription dispensed prior to the validity date of your card.

    How to use the scheme
Once we have processed your application form, we will send you a card for each member of your family. You
must present your card each time you attend the pharmacy before a prescription can be dispensed.
    We
advise you to use the same pharmacy in a particular month if you wish to avoid paying more than the monthly
    threshold amount.

The first month I was on the scheme the chemist put through everything from that month, prior to getting the card. I got the feeling he was doing me a favour but I would know him well enough.

So it can be done but likely at the discretion of the pharmacist.
