Children’s clothes storage/units for small bedroom

    Hi all,

In the process of moving into a house.

We have an 18 month old and a 4.5 year old, each will have their own rooms, but they are fairly small box rooms with no storage/nothing built in as is.

In terms of storage, is there any storage for clothes you guys would recommend. Some sort of a wardrobe which will go from floor to ceiling?

As is the 4.5 sleeps in double bed for an adult that we could bring with us, it has storage beneath on both sides, one side of which could be easily accessed and the second storage side could be accessed if bed rolled out from wall.

In terms of the 4.5 year old, what’s the done thing, bring existing bed he has and use storage underneath coupled with a wall to ceiling storage unit, or get a new smaller single bed and the wall to ceiling storage unit.

In terms of the 18 month old, he’s in a cot, so should we bring a chest of drawers kind of a changing table on top from Mothercare or future proof things by just getting same storage as we have for 4.5 year old?

More importantly, any links to recommendations from wherever Ikea on the kids clothes storage?

    Thanks all!

Personally, I'd go for a smaller single bed, as it will give them room to play in their bedroom as they get older, plus will allow space for a desk etc later on which will be handy for school work in the future.

The Kura bed from IKEA would be a great option, you can paint it, and when they are bigger change it around to make it a mid sleep and then put storage underneath:

You can buy stickers on Etsy for them too if you want to brighten it up.

The IKEA pax wardrobe would be the best bet, if you have the width and are able to spend a little more, then the sliding doors would be good for not impacting on the small amount of room space. I'd say you'd want the soft close though to help prevent little hands from getting caught, and make sure it's fixed to the wall properly.

I have Ikea stuva wardroves in my kids rooms. They’re not floor to ceiling, but the wardrobe with the drawers underneath is handy. It’s very tidy aswell, narrower than most wardrobes. I think they’re around €130.
