This evening I could not get my TV (JVC LED Smart HD) to work. Pressing the switch on the remote to change between on and standby gave no response. I changed batteries and still no response.

Tried plugging it out and in again?

I had a Samsung TV that used do something similar, it would be reluctant to come out of standby, eventually it wouldn't come on at all. It was a blown capacitor. Found a guy on adverts.ie that repaired TVs, turned out that it's a common problem and that even though it was about 8 years old it was still under warranty so he was able to claim back from Samsung.

    What model is your TV?

    DopeTech,
    many thanks.
The TV seems to be OK now. Last evening I read the manual and today I cleaned the IR receptor, the remote control and unplugged the set. This seemed to resolve the problem.
Do you still have the name of the person who solved your problem?
    Thanks for your interest.

It was an ad on adverts.ie, based in rathcoole if I remember correctly. I don't see it on there now though. It was a couple of years ago so maybe they are no longer on there.
