So a cat has been going from house to house in my estate and “crying”. It appears to be a male cat, very friendly. A neighbour said someone drove here and left him and took off so obviously he wasn’t wanted. I have a small child and a baby and I think I’m allergic to cat hair because they make me sneeze, we are renting so I definitely didn’t want a pet. Another neighbour told me that if he goes to a shelter they will put him to sleep in a few days and I just can’t live with that so I’m considering to keep him. What do I do from here? Do I take him to the vet to make sure he’s healthy? How do I even care for a cat? Can he only stay downstairs ? I’m so nervous about this as I really don’t want a pet right now but how do I just pretend he doesn’t exists? Can you tell me it’s a wonderful thing to have a cat...

Cats are awesome. We have 4! Obviously they come with all the usual responsibilities of owning a pet, but nothing that should put you off.

Start leaving some food out for him, do you have a back garden? If so, you could start feeding him there and he should start spending more time hanging around so you can get to know him a bit, see how friendly he is.

You could make him a little shelter in your garden, loads of ideas on YouTube.. Cats are wonderful pets and not as tieing as dogs if you go away for a few days. Stroking a purring cat has been proven to lower blood pressure and stress

    Thanks for caring Lily.
Cat could probably do with a flea and worm treatment.

Ring a cat rescue. They will take him and they will not put him down. Fair play to you for caring. Cats are wonderful but you don't have to take this responsibility on yourself.
