Should have gotten in better shape to get it done instead of going to court, lazy to say the least

Unfortunately this is the weak 'everyone gets a medal for participation' generation we've created.

If it's a requirement for trainees to 'pass the bleep test' to be a guard then you should have to pass the bleepin' bleep test to be a guard, simple as that.

AFAIK the fitness test isn't exactly difficult.

The lady failed a part of a fitness test on a number of occasions between 2017 and 2019. She was informed she was not suitable for the job and has now initiated a High Court case to contest the decision.

Was covered a lot already in another thread.

She hasn't a leg to stand on after the amount of warnings and chances she was given

She was given enough opportunities to pass the test..

You'd hope so but it is the Irish legal profession we're talking about. She may end up never having to work again...

It's not my son is a Garda, I trained with him to help him pass the physical tests. The bleep test is already a joke. I went way beyond the standard and I was 45 at the time.
The Garda in question has an eating disorder, she can't stop.

I am going to sue Manchester United for not signing me up.
    Be rolling in it.

Time to sue the NBA for 12 billion dollars for loss of earnings.

She should have went sick, sorted out her disorder. There's help available I'm sure.
Plenty of guard's had to kick the boose and go into treatment and walk back into their jobs, if she has a disorder obviously she needs to address her issue and get some compassion.

This will be an interesting case.

Proof of the last comment you made about the eating disorder?

    From the article:

"she failed to pass this particular test on a number of occasions between late 2017 and 2019."

Seems like they gave her ample time and opportunity to get to the required level.

Eating disorder followed by 'can't' stop , tongue in cheek. It's fairly obvious from photos that circulated on line that she should have refused second helpings on multiple occasions.

She got her daddy, the retired guard, to go on Pat Kenny for a good old whinge about dearest daughter being unfairly treated.

I sincerely hope she gets her ass handed to her in court, we have had generations of useless people walk into jobs because of nepotism, now going to court because they didn't get the job they thought they were entitled to? Fcuk off for yourself.

Something of interest with it, is I don't think they have to do that test with any kind of regularity? She's been affectively working as a Garda for 3 years and they'll probably have to show how it's negatively affected her ability to perform her duties in that time.

The beep test standard is very low.

If she can't pass that her concern should not be reinstatement but her long term health, which must be bad.

I would have thought a Garda should have BETTER than average fitness and BETTER than average intelligence. I know the latter is not the case, but FFS this is just laughable.

Absolutely crazy. I cant become a guard as people like me are not allowed to in any capacity- which is wrong btw.

However, I would piss that fitness test not a bother. Its really easy, its actually up on their website. A preseason junior soccer session is way harder.

On the surface yeah I see the WTF? On the other hand and going against the grain here, from what I gather she's been a Guard for years with no issue with her actual duties as a Guard in that time. Given they're undermanned in the middle of this pandemic crisis, with more likely having to self isolate as frontline people like Guards are more likely to be exposed to this pox and bringing in trainees and retired Guards, it seems a bit silly to sack one that's been doing her duty throughout.

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

Just ask yourself: if you were in a life threatening situation would you want this guard protecting you. For me its a big fat “no”.

Dis ye see the fat guard in Waterford getting out the car trying to chase a naked fella the other day ? He could only run five steps before he gave up. Absolutely ridiculous.

Well hang on a second, if it's a life threatening situation and you evidently can't save yourself, are you seriously suggesting you would die rather than rely on this person?

I agree with you to a point.
But, screams of nepotism to me. Yes, she may not ever need to run as a guard, but it is part of the test you need to pass, to get out.
The question is, why was she allowed to go out & work as a guard when she didn't pass the tests?
I bet there are many others who didn't get through because they failed one part of training.

So, she will probably get to stay as she has already given years of service, but questions should be asked, why?

The crisis will come to an end eventually and what then? Will it create a precedent so that say, Johnny who can't read or write so well but has a cracking legal team, gets to be a full Guard too?

It says she was a trainee Garda on probation.
probation "a process of testing or observing the character or abilities of a person who is new to a role or job."
If she has the ability to pass the physical test she gets the job. If not, then no job.
