ScareMongering - Do People get a kick out of it or what?

I have read some absolute drivel on boards the last two months.

Are people scare mongering on purpose or are they just thick?

You'd swear we are never going to back to normal, Everything is fecked and we are all going to be isolated for the next five years.

I have never read so much BS that people actually think in their own heads is whats going to happen.

I'd advise anyone not to listen to this drivel and get your information from proper websites.

    I've had 45 pints.

Sink the last three and finish off the second slab.

A combination of alot of reasons you've mentioned... Some get a kick from winding others up, others already have themselves so wound up they are winding others up as bad as themselves.... People need to calm the **** down, i remember a time when social media used to be fun.

As to scaremongering I think with most people it's unintentional. Some people can be a bit sensationalist. Also bad news always travels quicker. Then there are the prophet of doom types. My parents have a neighbor and the first words out of his mouth are always about who's dead/dying/sick.

First they came for the socialists...

I'm not ignorant. I'm not up myself but wipe your a*s with people's opinions. In life. On the internet. Anywhere.

Because the amount of Shi*e people say is unreal when you stop and listen.

Unfortunately, not everyone has the intelligence to understand the danger of something like COVID-19 e.g. a person that wedges themselves between people in a queue while others are abiding the 2 meter rule and there are signs everywhere explaining the rules!

DANGER: Don't push the RED Button ... then they push it.

Scaremongering is the alternative that works best for everyone of all intelligence.:)

Boards is full of fearmongerers and wind up merchants and not forgetting a plethora of Trolls. The Covid threads are rife with them.

a lot of people seem to revel in their ignorance, or naivety, too. one swallow doesn't make a summer, as they say...

There's two strains, it seems to me.

Firstly there's the simply stupid/attention seekers who either repeat what they've heard without any regard to the source. Example - an FB friend sharing videos of that wan on the northside with the "radiation meter" giving it "ah heyor, it's 36, that's deadly to humans".

Then there are those whose living depends on the clicks and retweets, your GO'Ds, your Katie Hopkins. They will just amplify any nonsense, no matter how dangerous, for the clicks.

Are people scare mongering on purpose or are they just thick?

You'd think it'd be crazy in this day and age to suggest that some of them are agents of foreign governments and actively want to kill people, but....

Scaremongering used to be better, especially if it related to urban legends. Satanic pedo murder cults, razor blades lodged in apples, killer in the backseat etc.

Its gone beyond ****ing ridiculous. Last night people were second guessing the Austrian, Danish and other governments, glaxosmithkline, Johnson and Johnson and the IMF to name a few.

Simple fact of the matter is the people making these decisions and calling the shots in these respective organizations are much smarter than you, me or anyone on this website.

I don't mean that in an insulting way but I'd take anything I read here with a big helping of salt.

Don't read the Independent if you want to avoid scaremongering.

Why would someone keep a job in Irelands most popular newspaper that headlines that there are "THOUSANDS of British cars,Campervans and caravans getting of the ferries" last weekend when in fact there was 2-3 British cars on each one with Irish people returning home and absolutely no consequences to either the so called journalist or the Editor.

Why should ordinary people bother their ar*se checking facts while trying a bit of scaremongering.

I think a lot of it is from people who have crap lives and they are determined that everyone else will fell as miserable as themselves so they try to scare everyone and they probably do want a lockdown for the next 2 years so everyone will have a $hit life like theirs.

Its the same on all media, crime, murder, covid-364, sells. Ive never heard the news start with 'A MAN IN A CORK VILLAGE HAS DONE THE DAILY SHOPPING FOR TWO ELDERLY SISTER.' You won't see that in the headlines of a newspaper either. What you'd see quicker is ''GANGSTER BUYS VILLA IN SPAIN' unfortunately bad news sells.

It's not the scaremongering that gets me. Some people believe what they're saying and nobody know for real how long all of this is gonna go on or how many will die

What does get me though, is the effort some people go to towards undermining our government, the HSE top brass or anyone else trying to deal with the current situation. They're doing terribly badly, so and so in that other country is making our lot look like twats! The lockdown is too severe / not severe enough etc etc.

Scare mongering is catching on everywhere and it's only a matter of time before it consumes you and everyone you love.
