Has it got an electronic parking brake? Ours used to display this on very hot day a few years ago as the actuator used to get fussy. However as AD pointed out this message seems to display for a number of issues, most nothing to do with the brake at all. You need to get it scanned to see what the actual fault is

It has got an electronic parking brake alright...No place to get in scanned at the mo with the Covid -19...just started happening recently in the last week...only 130km on the clock :(

Disconnect the battery for 10 mins, it will clear the fault but if it persists it will come up again immediately. Has it been parked much?

This message can mean multiple things!
Is the electric handbrake working ok? Electric handbrake module are expensive to replace.
This message also comes on when there is a fault in the engine.

Almost certainly an engine fault. When the engine ECU registers a fault, the Avensis throws up lights for ABS/VSC, EPB as well as engine light. When you scan the VSC for example, the code will be for engine fault.

I had this message and lights on the dash twice - 2010 diesel avensis similar klms.
First time was 4 injectors needed replacing
Second time I needed an alternator + battery
I drive short city distances mostly so a motorway blast with high revs now and again is recommended

I have a141 diesel avensis and had the same message & lights. The engine was running really rough and not pulling once it got up to temperature on mine. Turned out to be an injector problem. I had one replaced and it’s been fine since.
As someone else said it seems it can be a few things and not necessarily anything to do with the brake system.

Just after having same fault code on 09 avensis yesterday. Ended up stalling and leaving me on the road. Mechanic towe'd it in and one of the injectors had failed. This caused back pressure into the fuel rail which conked the car. This code came up and mechanic scanned it. It was the injector triggering it. All sorted now with 295€ for a new injector plus labour.
Also check oil level as mine had rose after the incident as diesel had leaked past the injector diluting the oil.
