Quick question. I'm thinking if buying a blue in bulk. I am told if left out of direct sunlight such as a shed and the container isn't opened then it could last upto 3 years.

Does this sound right to anyone out there with experience?

I don't know if the direct sunlight has any effect on it - we buy the drums and the drums are see through so are letting sunlight in anyway

Are you using much of it? a 20 litre drum does 100-150 hours depending on what we are doing

    I could go through 250lts a year

Mowing is fairly hard on it

I bought a blue barrell of it and put it under the diesel tank out of direct sunlight. I have it 10 months so far and no issues. I heard stories of algae growing in the ad blue that was stored in clear IBC tanks. I don't know how true it is.

Would use about a barrel and a half a year but good value at buying 4 on a pallet so would roughly last me 3 years. Seller telling me it would last but unsure. Unopened barrels would be left well out of the sunlight

Place is full of empty 20lt drums atm

Id be inclined to mark your drums adblu only and buy it off a local contractor or truck yard if can find someone agreeable as in small volumes its multiples of what someone buying via ibc’s can get it.

An ibc would be ok outside if covered in black plastic, neighbour got one free with a new loader in 2018 and it seems ok still.

How would you know if it has gone off? Loader only seems to use it when it's working hard at silage. It doesn't seem to use any over the winter tipping around the yard feeding cattle. 5L the whole winter AFAIK. When you're not working the dini hard do use much?

    that's a fair bit - no wonder you don't want 20L drums

What about buying it by the barrel and have a pump out of it?? It's a fair bit cheaper that way yet you wouldn't have it as long, are they 50 gallons in a blue barrel -that would do you a year and would be easy to store etc.

I'd be a long way from an expert on it but the 1 thing the dealer said to me was to buy good ad blue and don't have it sitting around for ages.
