    Hi
After installing KB4541509, I get a new desktop with a "temp user profile" message.
    Recovered with System restore.
I found a reference to this issue :
    https://borncity.com/win/2020/02/16/windows-8-1-update-kb4537821-kills-also-user-profiles/
Has anyone come across this before ?
    thoughts welcome

Yup, I've come across it before, there's a load of videos on youtube on how to fix it without needing to do a system restore.

    Came across this also:

Hunting for the cause, ran SFC /scannon, detected unable to fix, so on to DISM restore health : "Component store corruption fixed". Hmm...

    thanks

Can't find resolution yet. No .bak profiles or "temp" paths listed.

So I understand MS offer free service for update issues on their OS.
Would you have a working phone number for this as I cant seem to find a working one.

System Restore restores registry to previous state if not mistaking - temp/bak entry wasn't there.

Hmm.. So then thinking I can install update triggering event & inspect regedit/profile list from within temp profile to reveal more. Am unsure about making changes from that temp profile though.

For future, create additional 1 or 2 admin account(s) on your computer - don't have to use it, but will help if run in profile trouble again.

Even better, create and use standard user account for day-to-day use. This might be annoying, as you will have to enter admin account pass each time you do operation that requires elevation, but more safe/secure.

EventViewer might have some detail recorded if willing to investigate, but .... i'd say whats the point...

Let me bring you up to speed on my finding a solution: Stopped all the relevant services,
    Deleted contents of "Software distribution"
    Restarted relevant Services
Resumed Check for updates & installed all. (4 at this stage)
    Reboot & all well.

    Enjoy your day
