Thats just a attachment you put on a pressure washer, no use on its own.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,946 ✭✭✭Bigus

That’s only an attachment for a pressure washer, you need the pressure washer too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,855 ✭✭✭obi604

Ok. So the only function of this is a patio cleaner.

It's a plastic yoke with brushes on the inside. That's all it is.

No you haven't stumbled on a cheap pressure washer.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,124 ✭✭✭Mech1

No its only a plastic stick if you dont already have a pressure washer to power it.

Don't know but Lidl or Aldi, cant remember which one I saw it on has a power washer for same price coming up in next week or so. I bought a Lidl one after Christmas for 100 euro and it's perfect for paths/patio etc

Yeah the Aldi/Lidl ones are actually Lavor power washers underneath which are far better than your average Karcher.
I've one three years of near constant weekly use and it's perfect.

All the Lavor bits bolt on directly too for any attachments you may want in the future.

Actually. Got a loan of a petrol one from the father :)

    Forgot he had one.

What petrol does it take. Just standard unleaded like you put in a car, is it?

I have that exact model, I think its called a PHD 135, I have it a year or more now, no problems wash the car regularly with a snowfoam gun I got for it although the one it has is pretty good.
Washed paving slabs regularly with it usually monthly and although its not the fastest it does get the job done well with the turbo nozzle fitted.
If you are restricted by budget then go for it, however for not very much more you can get a machine with better flow rate and better cleaning performance on paving etc.
With mine I really just got it for car washing so its perfectly adequate for that purpose.

The difficulty is that most of these are either made in China and sold through Italy or made in Italy and given the difficulties presently are running low.
This looks like a good machine and has a hose reel, brass pump head and made in Italy https://www.agrieuro.co.uk/lavorwash-lavor-cross-140-cold-water-pressure-washer-electric-cold-water-140-bar-max-p-8482.html

Yesterday I was using a honda GP 160 petrol pressure washer. something like this: https://www.industrial-equipment.co.uk/online-tools-store/r099-3167-honda-power-washer-info.html

In general, are the petrol pressure washers simply better than the electric ones?

If I was to buy the one in lidl, would I notice a serious downgrade in power etc compared with the above?

My electric washer is past it and now the hose to the Lance is leaking. Petrol is the way to go.

    https://www.industrial-equipment.co.uk/online-tools-store/r099-4035-petrol-jet-wash-info.html

This looks ideal, anywhere in Ireland selling something similar?

That one you have linked to is a pretty good unit, Interpump pumps are pretty good and its hard to beat a petrol engine for power with single phase electrics.
Comparing like with like for €800+ P+P you can buy a Kranzle or Commercial Nilfisk which will wash equally well and not need half the maintenance or suffer from periods of non use which petrol engines do not like.

That said there are plenty of Chonda engines with poor quality pumps out there as well and they are not that great in terms of flow or longevity.

How often are you using it? How big an area are you cleaning? How dirty is the area? Do you have a lot of storage space? Petrol washers have a bigger footprint than electric.
    How much is your budget?

If I could keep budget under 300 euro, I'll be happy.

Woodies have a unit for 299. Not sure how good it is?

Any Lavor I ever used was poor enough and I doubt exactly the same parts are going into the Lildi ones.

The higher the pressure and bar is cleaning the dirt off on first pass of the wand or going back and forward trying to.

Look at the difference in the specs between the two.

Maximum flow rate: (The volume of water that will flow in 1 hour)
The cheaper option gives Flow rate max. 420L/hr
The dearer option gives Flow rate max. 450L/hr

Working pressure: (More pressure means a stronger jet of water)
    The cheaper option gives 90bar
    The dearer option gives 115bar

Pressure is not as important as flow rate when cleaning imo.
I'd also look at small things like having a hose reel rather than having to coil a dirty hose all the time. Small details like that make a difference in the real world.

    imo.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,907 ✭✭✭✭CJhaughey

Pressure is a unit of force, litres per minute is the ability of the washer to do work washing away the dirt that the pressure loosens.

When dealing with domestic pressure washers the flow rate is more important as the pressures generated are high enough to remove most of the kinds of dirt that are present even with a relatively low pressure of 110bar given enough flow.
The converse is that a water jet cutter operating at extremely high pressures will cut steel and stone but would not be able to effectively clean a stone path because the flow rate is not sufficient.

Looking to get a washer to do general domestic stuff. Reasonable patio, paths etc, 2 cars, bikes.Electric over motor driven. not hugely concerned with compact machines.

what do folks know about the various brands?

    Karcher?
    Lavor
    Stanley
    Annovi Reberi?
    Others?

Budget is about 250, would ideally like to get something with some decent accessories like the rotating patio tool and a foaming nozzle.

    Any thoughts?

Does anyone have any thought on a 3/4 inch garden hose? Do they work well in Ireland? Think the standard here is 1/2 inch.

looking to get an extension cable reel to use with a 1500 W pressure washer
Does anyone on here know if its worthwhile getting a 13amp over a 10 amp or does it matter?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,584 ✭✭✭greasepalm

Always handy to have a 13amp extension lead in case of needing it for something else.
3/4 is big but do you have a feed to use it from as i think you only get 1/2 coming into your house with your stop cock tap.

na, im back to just the 1/2 inch scenario

Also. Looking at getting the water to a point about 25 metres away from the tap.

Am I as well off just having a standard hose?

Or is it just tidier to have the hose REEL scenario?

    hi

    silly question time.
see this video: How to: Difference Between Hose Connectors With and Without a Stop Valve - YouTube

what hose connector should be connected directly to the pressure washer

    1. a standard hose connector
    2. a hose connector with stop valve (aqua stop)
