Can I change over from private to commercial by taking out the back seats

theres an NSAI test now, you have to get a company that can perform the test and the vehicle has to meet requirements, the hardest of which being the boot opening size.

it has to be 12800cm2 all round. There are some exceptions for hatchback car-van type vehicles.

The days however of estate m5's , Nissan 300zx's, small crossovers like the X-Trail or Kia Sportage being done is over.

You'll only manage it in a proper full size 4x4 like a land cruiser, Nissan patrol, VW Touareg etc...

Thanks for your help. It's a 2005 fiat doblo wheelchair accessible vehicle and the back door opens up so I think I am ok for size with it.I was hoping to just take out the two back seats and do the change over.

Lol, if it were that easy then most of the country would be driving commercial converts.

being honest, sell it to somebody who needs a wheelchair accessible car and buy a doblo panel van. It would be cheaper.

When did that come into effect?

240 quid for the paper change + the work to convert the rear windows to metal panels plus destroy and weld the rear seat mounts plus install a flat floor plus the wheelchair ramp probably has to go and all those bits be welded. You're likely looking about 1000-1500 all in.

2016 after paddy Connolly converted a Bentley bentega to crew cab and somebody in revenue woke up at their desk.

We’ve had an A4 estate, a V60 estate, and an Octavia estate converted to commercial since 2016.

All glass left as it was in each of them also.

You don’t need to do anything with the windows if car VRT has already been paid. Same with floor.

please tell me what VRT office and which NSAI test centre allowed that, seriously. I need to import another Range Rover.

I have built a bed in it and was hoping that it could be changed over to commercial. Would use it for fishing trips.

if its a wheelchair accessible vehicle id wager it didn't have the vrt paid so theres possibly a 200 quid liability there too.

What year is it, and what engine? Have you ever taxed it?

    Never taxed it

Is it only the cheap tax your after? If not just tint the rear windows, take out the seats and leave the seat belts in place... That's what i did with a 1.4 Kangoo Kar i had and NCT'd it.

Too late.Seats and belts are gone and bed and storage built.

You should of done things the other way around, but as you say bit late now.... I'd say your going to run into bother.

Can the bed and storage be removed? Just get a set of S/H belts then for the NCT? You won't need the seats.

Ah it wouldn't be worth the hassle. I would end up pulling the whole thing apart. The option of going campervan might work

    It won't be commercial anyway...

You wont get camper insurance in it, plus you have to pay 13.3% VRT and meet certain criteria to register it as a camper.

Because the only company that will cover you requires membership to the motorcaravan club, and they won’t give you membership on a Doblo.

Would the private tax on a Kangoo not be cheaper than commercial? Also don't commercial vehicles require a CVRT rather than a NCT?

he's saying leave it as a car as regards tax and test but black the rear windows and modify the interior. Presumably with the facility to put the seats back in for the test if necessary.

I recently (Jan) converted my 1995 Volvo 940 Estate. Had to remove rear seats and belts, remove seat belt anchors and weld over the anchor points (used chemical metal), cover rear footwell with floor (plywood) bolted in place, and show cargo lashing points (already in the car) Blacking out windows was not required. I did the work myself which cost less than €100. The report from SQI cost €200. I had to provide evidence of my business and that I,m registered for tax. It now has a CVRT (instead of NCT)

This is a 2.4 litre so private tax was over 1k, now €330 and I use it for business anyway. Have slept in it too and made insulated black out blinds so its a natty micro camper.

The two seats in the back of the doblo were removable because of the wheelchair accessible anyway.I just took them out and removed the tracks off the floor. The seat belts are also removed and covered over.I can't see what the problem would be going commercial or am I missing the point all together.

Sounds like you're set to go bar the paper work. Get the Documents of conversion from an Engineer (SQI), he/she is the one who declares if it's in order, then, if your motor tax office are happy you need it for business, fill out the forms and you're good to go. Best of luck with it.

Because it’s not a camper...it doesn’t have the required standing room among other details

and in 5 years it'll be 56 quid to tax but you'll be without back seats and all the other bits. glad you're happy with it but that would have been a lovely vintage proper rwd boxy Volvo and been great to keep OEM. Keep all the seats and bits to put it back if you can...

I kept all the bits with that in mind alright, it's going well so with luck I'll get there!

Seats don't need to be fitted for the NCT only belts.

Has anyone recently tax'd a new car and wanted to know how long does it take to get the car up on the motor tax system .
Would it be correct that the VIN number and the reg is sufficient ?

The following day. The reg and the last 6 digits of the VIN are all you need.

Is this a subtle I bought a 212 car post?
