There are surface mounted down lighters available.

Thank you! Do these look the same or are they more bulky? What would be the approximate cost to get them fitted in a small hallway and also in a 5*9 metre living space?

Depending on how the ceiling is done. Sometimes they are battened which will allow a shallow led recessed spotlight to be installed.

Not always. There is a "pancake type" that are very thin.

As meercat suggests it would be best to start by measuring the space available above the ceiling.

That depends on many factors. Anything from €80 per point up and a minimum of €300 for the entire job. If cables are difficult to route it could be a lot more. The electrician may have to damage quite a lot of plaster to wire this. Sometimes you can be lucky and cables are easier to route.
