    As above, neighbour asked me to have a look as he needs to remove it to clean out. I had a look but cannot see any way of removing the securing "studs" that hold the grill in place, there are 3 holes in the grill around these studs, is there a special tool required or is there another/easier way to remove it??.

    Half way between the studs you will find the join.
    Just prise up the end of one of the drain covers with a screwdriver.

    any I've worked on you turned the stud to slacken ,but this may be a new system that I haven't seen before.

    That's what it looks like to me as well, I did try to prise up the grill but it seemed to be held in place by these studs, the studs are completely rounded, the neighbour had tried to unscrew them with a pliers but no go, there are three equidistant holes in the grill under each stud, don't know if these are of any significance or not. If you look closely at the photo, you can actually see them, or maybe blow up the picture in "paint" to see it better. The holes may be just drain holes, of course.
    I will have another look tomorrow or the day after and see if I can lift them, thanks.

    Photo is poor but are there not some corners on the top of that stud?

    Not that I could see, but will look more closely, I thought that you would just open them with a socket or such like.

    There are probably a few different systems , but this looks like yours;
