Lads. Getting a slight burning smell into the cabin earlier and plugged in the obd reader and its throwing up P14A3. From a quick Google I can see its something to do with the DPF but wondering if anyone can shed some light as to what it could be specifically.

Na that would have the older n47 engine in it not the one with the manifold recall. Check for obvious burnt Mark's etc. There is quite afew recalls tho including the main battery cable and that. The fault code be completly unrelated in any shape or form. Then again could be the rocker cover gasket leaking oil onto the exhaust really could be anything. I do alot of bmws but I'm in kildare I'd have a look at it for ya

I only had the rocker cover replaced a few weeks ago due to a leak from it being melted. Mechanic reckons it was a pipe from the dpf that wasn't attached properly, one with like silver insulation on it. However when he inspected it, it was attached properly so previous owner had a issue with it.....

Picture attached below of the old one.

    Hi,

Just a heads up, I found this out the hard way, if your car is showing engine errors like that then it is possible it isn't doing its DPF regens. It wont show that there is an issue to the driver via idrive etc but it wont be doing the regens which will ultimately lead to dpf becoming clogged which can lead to other fun stuff going wrong...

I had a faulty glowplug control unit in 08 520d which led to no regens happening and DPF getting clogged, no dash warnings, car just got sluggish over time. Ended up shelling out approx 300 quid to get DPF cleaned out properly. Replaced both glowplug controller unit and EGR valve which was also showing errors (both easy DIY to do).

If you have a copy of the ISTA software which you can get online (I did after fun above) and is the one the dealerships use afaik , then you can see when the last regen was done even force one to occur if necessary..

Here is some info on that code:

I seem to recall talking to a bmw specialist about this sensor and them saying that yes the sensor can fail but often all it is is that it has become dirty/clogged so removing it and cleaning it can often solve the problem.

BTW, I don't know for sure if this error is one that will stop dpf regens,** I'm not a professional, just an enthusiast** and I only learned about the no regens with errors when I had the issue myself but I thought it was worth mentioning....

    Good luck with your investigations..

    ~LTD
