    Hi,
Just wondering if anybody has converted their home (ours is 1900 sq feet inc converted attic) into two apartments?
We are hoping to extend ground floor by max allowed (currently apx 800sq feet). We would hope to live on ground floor and divide house so that first floor and attic would create a large two bed self contained apartment to sell to daughter or member of public.
If anyone has done this can you please provide some advice on cost/regulations etc. Or if you are a builder/architect I would appreciate some advice.
    Many thanks

Requires planning permission, and unless you have a VERY large site, is unlikely to be granted.

    Planning Permission.
    Fire Safety Certificate.

Very hard to get as you have private open space requirements, parking and common areas to contend with.

As above, plus you will need new utilities/ heating systems.
    Is the attic fully complaint?
then you will probably make you half unsaleable

It is hard to do tastefully but it could be. However the regulatory environment seems to be dead set against and that seems to be one of those weird things you can't discuss in this country.

    What a strange comment??

There are plenty of guidelines and policies which cover this, and nothing at all which restricts discussion.

    What?

It can be technically done. But people on here think it’s a matter of putting an extra number plate on the front door and then just putting an extra door to upstairs.

They don’t understand the technical requirements for apartments and the whole other ball game they are entering compared to a single residential extension or dwelling.
