Advice on painting internal woodwork

Hi, all of the internal woodwork in my house (solid pine doors, skirting, architrave, sills, etc) have never been painted before. They were varnished with clear varnish although the surfaces feels fairly rough now (maybe 15 years ago).

I would like to paint everything white. I was thinking of using Dulux Satinwood Pure brilliant white.

I am looking for advice on the options I have.

    (1) Sand, prime and then paint everything with multiple coats

    or

    (2) wash, then apply ESP before painting two coats

I know option 2 is easier but would it end up a disaster? I have heard stories of paint chipping off etc.

If going with Option 1, could I get away with with just a light sanding to rough it up before priming?

Also what primer would be recommended?

Finally I am unsure of which Dulux Satinwood to use - oil based or water based, or should I go with Easycare version for longevity?

In summary, I want a nice finish with minimum effort!

I changed a full pine stairs, handrail, spindles to paint a few years back.

Sanded it all , used Bin primer on it , then Dulux Satinwood (2 Coats)

Took ages but two years later its held up quite well it did chip in one or two spots where it got a knock but a simple touch up sorted it out.
