ZGEMMA Suddenly crashed and won't boot

    Hi All,
Bit weird but..... I got ransomware on my home PC. Now this is the second time in 2 months. I have no idea where it is coming from and is a bit disconcerting. After the last time I have invested €400 on backup and antivirus services. I have Norton360 and MWB and I had Defender protecting the Documents folder. F all use...it uninstalled them all and encrypted everything ffs.
I have not nor anybody else in the house (my wife) browsed anything or clicked on anything as I'm paranoid now.

So that aside my ZGEMMA is gone belly up this afternoon too. Now it has been great and I hope it has nothing to do with the ransomware - I can;t see how as it's a linux box but it is coincidental. It won't boot - at all - says boot on the front but zero text on the TV - not a screen flicker.

Forgetting all the above what would be the best way to bring it back to life? I was running Open ATV. Is there an image I can grab and put on a USB and force it to reflash?

    Cheers, any help appreciated!

Did you factory reset your pc after the first attack?
With the zgemma download open ATV onto a usb stick and power off the box ,insert usb and power on the box and it should flash
you can get it from here http://images.mynonpublic.com/openatv/nightly/index.php?open=mbmicro

Yes - I reformatted everything - major pain. Luckily I had a cloud back up service so lost nothing but time and a pain in the h***

Really really interested about where the attack is coming from. MWB was reporting a ping on a weird port from an IP address I traced to Tehran! But they said it was sorted and blocked :( F***ers

Anyway thanks for the link to Open ATV. I'll do that next. But also interested as to why the ZGEMMA is suddenly not booting and if there is a way I can see if it is related to the attack! Be horrible to think your TV could be frozen by some bad actors out there!

Zgemma's can be a bit temperamental, they can be fine for years and just stop working,re flash should sort it.

OK - I downloaded the files and put them on a USB stick.

Do you know if the various files and img have to be in the root of the USB stick as they are in several subdirectories of the download. i.e. \zgemma\h7\file name

I tried with them in zgemma and in the root but the box is not reacting. It still just comes up with 'boot' in the display and sits there :(

Apologies - I've just found this.....I'll try a bit later

Use a USB stick with FAT32 format.
Unpack the ZIP file to the USB stick.
You should see a "zgemma" folder in the root of the USB stick.
    Power off your receiver.
Plug the USB stick to one of the back panel USB ports. Recommended to remove all other USB connected devices.
    Power on
Immediately after power on PRESS AND HOLD the front power button behind front flap.
The display will show boot, USB, FLSH. Once FLSH is displayed you can release (stop pressing) the button.
Wait, when "boot" is displayed you can remove the USB stick

only certain usb will work to flash the zgemma. get a sandisk usb. the cheapest smallest one works perfect. go to the techkings website for info.

OK I just used some random USB stick I had and actually followed the procedure above and it worked. Box is back in service! Open ATV 6.4 has a few changes to the UI AND you have to set the FTP password through the UI if you want to use Dreambox loader etc!

Otherwise all good - many thanks for advice
