RTE announcing Cutbacks only to never go ahead with them

When was the last time RTE actually went ahead with terminating a service? Was it the MW closure of Easter 2008? In the past 5 years RTE have announced the shutdown of Lw 252, RTE Aertel, Lyrics Limerick base, The DAB Network and Digital radio stations and the sale of the Guide only for them to not go ahead with any of it. What kind of cowboys are running the place?

They might have an extra half a mill to play around with next year for starters. I won't mention the reason but I'm sure you can infer.

Not if they are on the hook for death in service payments to next of kin.

So they did close a few of their original digital stations. LW was political. Analogue RTÉ Aertel could be dropped do not know why the digital version isn’t on Sky & VirginMedia. Aertel is in the act Dail needs to move on that. Digital Radio station will need to be approved by the minister & dept.

So while RTÉ are dragging their feet so to are other state agencies

I wonder who was to blame for them dropping the sale of the Guide a few days after it was announced? My guess the Unions

No market for it, price was too low IMO

It was dropped due to the offer(s) received being far less than they had deluded themselves of.

The well paid presenters are generally contractors so that would be their own responsibility.

Plus an insurance / life assurance company would be paying out that type of policy, not an employer.

Good point. Either they have the money or they don't. RTE Gold is a popular service, but if they said they were shutting all the digital stations down they should just get on with it.

    They can't save everything!
