Hi, Look a watch from a dealer in Liechtenstein who I've already checked out. Watch is around €1,500, can you anyone tell me the chances of getting caught for VAT or Duty on this and how much I might be looking at. Watch would be shipping via DHL.

    Thanks.

    23% VAT I think.

I would buy on the assumption that you will get caught for customs charges. I've had stuff get through without and others get stopped for customs.

Never had a DHL package get through without customs charges. An Post is more of a lottery.

Is there customs from Lictenstein? It is an EEA country with largely the same rules as an EU country. Why is VAT not charged at source?

You're right actually. I misunderstood the website I was reading earlier.

There should be no Irish VAT either as it should be charged by the supplier in Liechtenstein. The rate there is only a fraction of what it is here. If he doesn't charge VAT then I would say that is not your problem, it is his.
