I was looking at a book this morning, not logged in, price for the kindle edition, 2.99. Logged in and the price is now 6.87.
I've seen this happen before sometimes but usually with less of a difference.
Anyone else notice similar or what's the explanation for it do you know?

    Paddy tax.

    Penguin books publish Book X.
In the UK Book X is €2
In France Book X is €2.50
In Ireland Book X is €9.99

I suppose I'm usually logged in so didn't notice it.

Why is it extra for Ireland?
I mean it's a digital product. If it was a book being sent in the post it might make some sense.

It's the same for nearly everything sold in Ireland not just Amazon. You can buy brand new cars cheaper in UK and probably in main land Europe also.

I don't think there's a difference. It seems to be a glitch in how prices are displayed where the rrp is nearly always displayed in the "Kindle price" box and the real price is in the buy now section. - Certainly it shows like this on a PC screen or laptop.

Easy to see when you look logged in and then look for same book in incognito mode

    Here's an example https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B075RW7X3X?

In the box saying "kindle edition" it sates £5.99, but look on the right where the "buy now" is and the price you are paying is £1.69.

Put the same url into incognito mode and there it will display the reduced price in both areas.

So its not paddy tax or anything like that as one particular poster that has an issue with anything and everything and is nearly always wrong, but just a simple display glitch.

Why do H&M sell a jacket for £40 in the UK and €99 in Ireland? Cause we'll pay it.

Im an Amazon customer since 2005 and I've never seen any difference in the pricing between logged in/out.

I had this too. Found the problem. When you're logged out, it shows prices for the lowest offer, which is often a seller. If the seller doesn't post to Ireland, their offer disapears when you log in with an Irish account, and the next offer is displayed.

My amazon is set to my UK Addresspal address by default so I always get everything at UK prices, pay in sterling with Revolut and most of the stuff is delivered for free to Ireland or else to address pal for 3.85 collection fee is they don't ship to Ireland. I never pay in Euro.

I bought an eBook on Amazon during the week and it was cheaper after my log-in ( £4.99 vs £4.84).

VAT is charged at a different rate in UK/IRE. If you change your address from UK to Ireland you will see the price increase to reflect the different VAT rates. Maybe when you log in the Amazon website is applying a different VAT rate

I was looking today at kids helmets and weirdly the price changed significantly during checkout, around 5-6GBP for each helmet. So this is not just the VAT rate change. I have never seen this before on amazon, normally it was just the VAT which in this case would be something around 0.6 Euro.

Presumably this is not the dynamic pricing amazon uses, as the price on the website remained the same?

I haven't even bothered to Google it before writing this reply so probably wrong, but could it be to do with these being completely VAT free in the UK but not here? (Or maybe not being properly VAT rated for Ireland).

Wow. I did google it now... and it looks as if you are right. Did not know that they are zero rated in the UK. Another lesson learnt.
    Thanks, really appreciated.

Its called fingerprinting and a good reason not to give your data to a big company like amazon
