Eir Broadband 1TB Limit

    Hi
Been thinking that thousands of us are likely to breach Broadband caps with everyone at home 24/7 streaming, downloading etc.

I have eir extreme - think there is a 1TB limit. Has anyone heard anything re eir's plans on this-public relations disaster if they add €100 onto everyonesbill as their terms & conditions seem to allow them to charge up to that amount if you breach it by much - or is anyone aware of what other providers intend to do?

    Thanks

P.S. Which providers are truly unlimited? I am out of contract but don't think it would be wise to switch right now in terms of the risk of being left with no service for days and the resultant riots in my house as a result...!

eir have removed the cap. you might just have to ask to have it removed.

ring Eir support. If you signed up to Eir within the last year to 18 months there shouldn't be a cap. If it's an old account that is well over a year old, you may have a cap, ask and they'll remove it for you.

Eir and Airwire have no caps/limits. Westnet have no cap either if you live in Mayo. All other providers have caps/usage policys for FTTH.

Contacted them on Twitter DM. They replied and said I didn't have a cap - but a few minutes later I got an email from the getmore email address confirming my new order - which was a surprise to me that I had put in an order! - so that would imply they had to change the back end for something if that email issues. My account is from Oct 2018 (4 open and closed accounts - including my original account from 2004 - arising from a botched order for a FTTH install with an associated 6 week comedy of errors) so maybe what you said re them having to take off the limit is in play here.

They have a chance here for positive PR - lift all limits for duration of lockdown or at least say multiply it by a factor of 10 if as is usual some people will abuse it - but they need to get that out there with people like Conor Pope and get themselves some positive coverage.

I have had the eir fibre broadband at 300 MB for nearly one year.

Speed on the eir 300 MB is usually:
    • Ping: 6,
    • Download: 287 MB,
    • Upload: 48 MB.

My current contract is about to end. I am looking at the eir 1GB.

Does anybody have any experience with the eir 1GB?
Would be great to know what the usual internet speed is on this.

I'm on same plan as you, is 300 not enough?
I'm not sure the 1gb is worth the extra 20 euros a month, especially as you'll see no real world difference on most services and downloads. The only real noticeable improvement would be the doubling of the upload speed from 50 to 100.

Also the 300 plan might be getting upgraded to 500 before the end of the month.

A typical speedtest on the 1000/100 plan would be somewhere in the 800s with 97 upload. Only those with really good network cards tend of shoot above 900, maxing out at 940.

    Thanks Gonzo for your input.

The issue for the 300 plan is the price is set to jump up 25 euro,
I wanted to check the other offers before proceeding.

Where did you hear they might be upgrading it from 300 to 500 MB?

Seen these offers on eir's website.

If you already have FTTH with Eir, you can't avail of those special prices even if you are out of contract. Those are for new customers only or Eir customers who never had FTTH before. 1 gig FTTH with Eir is close to 90 euros per month for existing customers.

The 300 profile is currently not available to order as Eir are bringing in a 500 profile. What remains to be seen is will Eir upgrade existing 300 plan customers to 500 by default or do we have to contact for the 'free' upgrade to 500. This is meant to be happening around the 28th of April.

While technically true, if you log in to your myEir portal and request a call back about potentially renewing contract (calling them at the moment is a nightmare with waiting times), they might be able to sort you out with a better price. Basically what I do with the Sky every 12 months as well ha.

I just upgraded the other day from 300mb to 1gb, and I'm paying less than what I would've been paying for the 300mb.

Did you get the 1 GB on the 24 month contract?

Got billed 100 quid extra today for going over 1TB, dreading ringing eir now I'd say it will be painful. Is it true that the 1TB cap is done away with for new customers, I'm with them maybe 3 years now. Used about 1.5tb last month but looking at the last few months I can see they were all up near 1TB

They moved me as I said - apparently I had the same cap as yourself but when I asked they removed it. I had said to them about the PR disaster it would be if they billed people during lockdown etc. Tell them you'll talk to Joe!

I’ve also got stung with the 1TB cap, customer service pretty much tough use the dsl statistics website to monitor your usage.

    http://dslstats.eir.ie/

Use your landline number and account number to log in.

I switched to sky during the week, couldnt be dealing with eir, useless. Was on 100mb with eir for €55 a month- got sky 75mb for €30 for 12 months then goes to €55, it's probably the exact same product. I'll save €300 over the year and minus the 100 charges I'll be walking say with money in my pocket.

I was with them years ago when renting and said never again but foolishly went back to them when we moved because I thought they might get the line in quicker. But I'll say it again, never going back to eir simply because their customer service is useless
