Case Puma Multicontroller

From what I’ve seen it looks like there was a new version of the multicontroller around 2010.

The older version was a stationary handle with small screen on front of it showing the gear selection.

The newer version had a handle that moved as a throttle, the gear selection screen was in the pillar and there was an arm rest that opened with lift controls under it.

I was wondering did the newer version come out when they were changed from low bonnet to high bonnet versions? Or is it possible to get low bonnet with newer version?

I think the Puma version was introduced on ‘08. The higher bonnet versions were a result of emissions regs.

The Puma versions were introduced when CNH developed its own vario gearbox. The original CVX models had a ZF vario that was only available with a pedal actuator for the vario, whereas the Puma versions have both pedal and multicontroller actuators. Iykwim.

Was the joystick used for front loader or front linkage an option on them or did it come as standard with the electric spools?

This was the launch of the GARU, short for Global ArmRest Unit, which came into both brands around 2009 (both Case and NH). First model that came with it was the NH T6090 which had no red equivalent at the time (165 rated hp). It began to appear then on the Puma models, short wheel base mostly when they changed over to the high bonnet versions and then was an option on both short and long wheel base models but only if you had electric spools on the rear and mid mount valves in some cases. With mechanical rear remotes, you still got the old MXU/Maxxum style armrest.
The first longwheel base model that got this armrest on the red side was the Puma 225CVX around 2009 also. It then drifted down to the rest of the range (165-210hp) shortly after.

The old Steyr based armrest was introduced into the Puma models mainly for product differentiation between the brands and as a familiar sight for customers who were used to the older CS and CVX models.

You won’t find a low bonnet short wheel base (120-155 semi powershift / full powershift) with the newer style armrest, you have to go to high bonnet version to get it. On the longwheel base, your looking at models newer than 2009 to get this armrest.
Anything that had this newer armrest generally had electric rear spools and in some cases a mid mount valve with option to control either rear or mid mounts off the joystick.

I prefer the look of the low bonnet swb, it looks handier size even though the rest of the dimension are the same as high bonnet. So was wondering if was possible to get one with the newer multicontroller.

Are mid mount spools common on them or would they usually only be on them already if they have front linkage or loader?

Biggest issue with the low bonnet versions and why they were short lived is that the cooling package is too small on them and higher risk of transmission oil overheating during heavy roadwork etc. The engine dataset in the ECU is also slightly different and you don’t get as much boosted hp as you do on the high bonnet versions, the fuel map is different, as a result of this.

No difference in dimensions, it’s really the larger bonnet that makes you think it’s a bigger tractor and whilst forward visibility would be better on the low bonnet, you’re at higher risk of transmission issues under continuous heavy work as a result.

Mid mounts largely would have been specced for loader ready option or with front linkage but in both those cases, they can come without too and be operated from the rear spools. Have seen units too of basic spec that did have mid mounts fitted, for the likes of municipal work where implements needed on the front for road maintenance etc.

The Bosch electric spools can be troublesome too, while the cost of them has come down, you can still expect to pay wrong side of €1k for a complete slice. Repairs to the pilot heads on them can be on average half that price in general.

But back to your original question, the newer style armrest can’t be got on the low bonnet models. (125-155hp semi and full powershift models).

A Maxxum sized tractor would probably be sufficient for what I need so unlikely I’d be working a Puma very hard. I’d prefer a range command so that’s one reason why was looking at Puma instead and also future proofing if had bigger machinery sometime in future.

When would the sidewinder first have appeared on the T6050, T6070, T6080....?

Would it be the same time the new version of multicontroller came on the swb Pumas?

From my post further above, when the T6090 was launched in late 2008 early 2009, this was the first model it appeared on and the first of the high bonnet short wheel base models. It had no red equivalent this model at the time. So it was a little while before it found its way onto rest of the blue range and onto the red models also.

Was there any equivalent version of the T6020, T6030, T6040 elite compared to the older version of the Maxxum multicontroller 2007-2010, with electric spools? Or would the New Hollands have needed an separate joystick for a loader?

Was there any change in the controls when the TSA changed to T6000 and MXU Pro changed to Maxxum Multicontroller?

No they stayed much the same as the previous TS-A series that either had mechanical levers over on the side or electric levers in the same position if you had electric spools. There wasn’t much differentiation in those in comparison to the offerings on the equivalent red side.

Largest change really was the Tier 2 to Tier 3 engines, controls stayed largely the same, the dark grey of earlier TS-A interiors got changed for lighter version of grey which is still there today.

Comparing T6000s and Maxxums that are for sale, there seems to be more of the Maxxums with electric spools and joystick than T6000s.
