Some shops are refusing to serve people who come in just to buy the lotto or a bottle of wine saying that these aren't essential

One big shop and maybe a midweek very small shop to pick up fresh bread, milk etc.. is the absolute maximum any family needs to be doing.

We can't have people going to the shop every second day - it makes the shutdown pointless.

People going out for a scratch card should be locked up, for everyone else’s sake.

Lotto can be done online. Wine can be stocked up on during the big shop.

Then again, I can't recall any online winners of the jackpot.

In the current circumstances anyone who ventures out to the shops just to pick up a bottle of wine or a lottery ticket is an absolute idiot

It's great too see them taking it seriously. Maybe the muppets who think a lotto ticket is essential might eventually get the message.

It's now the equivalent of rocking up to an A&E department with a grazed knee demanding to be seen.

This current crisis is really highlighting all the idiots.

I dunno, after a week locked up with a baby and a 3year old, a bottle of wine could become an essential item pretty quickly :D

All eyes on Kursk. Slava Ukraini.

Off licences are deemed essential. Why not a trip for a lotto ticket? Alcohol is actually harmful when it comes to the virus lotto tickets aren't.

Ffs get a grip. Over 99% of the population don't have covid 19 and don't know anyone with it

To be honest, they sound like excuses to get out of the house, either to have a smoke on the way, or just for the walk itself.

If somebody ‘needs’ wine because they are an alcoholic they will only buy a loaf of bread too in order to ‘validate’ their journey to the shops.

Like someone addicted to smoking cigarettes, they’d buy 20 and a sliced pan.

Not going to the shop though for fags !

In fairness, hospitals don't need all the serious alcoholics going into withdrawal all at the same time.

And I'm sure the government would rather we stay at home sozzled than be tempted to go out through boredom.

Handy tax generator too when a lot of businesses are closed and the cost of all of this will be astronomical. I don't mean that to be as cynical as it seems.

ED attendance is running at 47% of normal usage so guaranteed to be seen quickly!

If shops are doing this they should just make sure its advertised in the window or online.
I take it they are the same about cigarettes, cakes, etc if people just wondering for them.

How’s the smoker managing? Buying in bulk or going in every day?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,787 ✭✭✭Feisar

We sat down on Saturday, checked what we had, decided what we were going to be eating for the week and off they back of that wrote a list. It wasn't that hard. Beer and prosecco were added. Checked toothpaste, shampoo, cleaners as well to see if we needed to get anything. Then one of us went to the shop.

Popping out for a few bits is needless, however if a shop takes on a holier than thou attitude and doesn't allow someone buy a bottle of wine then they need to do the same across the board.

First they came for the socialists...
