Can I get some thoughts please on this car that my father has eyed up:

    B class Merc

I know nothing about the B Class... just wondering is it prone to any specific issues like DPF, or... anything else really. Fuel economy? Servicing? Is this one worth the money?

He wont be doing any heavy lifting, speeding, or carrying grandchildren.

(I dont know why he picked the B class Mercedes, might be just the name).

    Appreciate any/all feedback.

It looks like its in great condition anyway. The dash and interior are lovely too. The car itself is a bit frumpy looking do but that's just me. It reminds me of the R-Class. I would say they choos it because of its high seating, they like it and its only a 1 owner c too.

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.

I had one hired in the UK last summer, I found it hard on fuel and engine a bit noisy.

12k on an 8 year less than desirable car? But then again if your dad is of the older generation and ease of getting in and out of a car is important then I would consider it.

I had 2007 2lt diesel one. It had troublesome electrics with the wing mirror (opening & lights). The auto transmission electrics ended up failing and was +2K fix so it went for scrap in the end.

12k is that for real?! If access is an issue , you’d bE better off getting a new Dacia Sanders etc for that type of money in my opinion !

The man probably wants something a little flash or premium but still a bit practical for his later years and was attracted by the Mercedes badge. I doubt very much he is interested in a Dacia for those reasons.

12k for that is a piss take, something flash? get an s class for 5k and spend the rest on a few years tax in that case...

I see no value in cars like that, there is no prestige, just a ridiculous unjustified price tag...

I'm not saying it's worth 12k, its not but I get the impression that's not the main focus of the person looking at it. Look at this from the perspective of a person who probably isn't into cars and just wants a premium car that satisfies his idea of what's premium. There is also a huge gulf in running an maintaining a B Class versus the default S Class suggestion, other than just the motor tax. The OP's father probably just sees the B Class as a Mercedes which is more premium than anything he probably had previously.

Thanks Bazz - thats exactly it - he's 70+ and basically needs something easy to get in and out of, easy to manage and cheap to run. A bit luxury in his latter years!

I saw the car this morning and well... for various reasons I think we will pass. In interior is nice and seems fresh, but the "full service history" stops at 44k km and the 1 owner in the ad is actually two owners in real life. I'm not suggesting anything wrong with the mileage, but its annoying to not know what was done to the car in the last 60+ thousand km. It had also taken a knock to the rear bumper from reversing into something (you can actually see the dent in the pics in the ad), and that has misaligned the bumper as it comes under the wheel arches, it doesnt line up correctly. Plus someone got out the silver paint to cover up some paint chips on the front.

It wasnt in terrible shape by any means, but 12 was a bit strong.

twelve k! wonder what they would take for it next week? yeah a friend of mine has a yeti. If the Op old man wants "luxury" go with a merc etc, but thank god you did not pay 12k for that. Imagine you did, go sell that privately a week later, you'd get half as much in my opinion, less actually...

Some people may not think that is relevant, but when I buy a car, I always ask myself , if I had to sell if a day later, would I get back more or less, what I paid for it...

that one above might be the older model? Does he want auto only ?
