BBC R Wales MW Closure April 1st.

Another stations to go and it's a pretty strong station here.

The BBC shut down many MW transmitters last year and as many to go this year.

In a few years, apart from Spirit Radio here in Ireland, there will probab,ly be no English speaking MW stations to hear. Sad times.

BBC R 4 LW will be gone they said a few years ago when the Valves wear out so it's already on borrowed time. Another strong signal here.

Soon I will have to listen to internet radio to receive BBC stations or I probably won't bother because I can't carry the internet radio around the house and I have limited bandwidth connection on 4G, no fixed internet here.

Sad, sad times for radio.

1125 kHz low power is closing. And the low power transmitter on 882. They will still continue on 882 and 657. Ideally they would keep only one transmitter on 882, and this would stop the distortion which can happen at night from having two transmitters.

I'm not sure which one I am receiving on 882 then because there was an announcement yesterday afternoon to "re-tune" your radio, same as for BBC Cornwall.

So I might still hear BBC R wales then ? I do hear an echo of 2 transmitters.

2 of the 4 transmitters of the 882kHz 'SFN' are closing, including one half way up the Welsh coast

THe 882 approx halfway up the west Welsh coast is closing, it currently has a closure announcement at around quarter-to and quarter-past every hour, its probably dominant across the water in Co. Wicklow, the closure announcements are audible in the background in other areas.

And BBC local stations closing on MW audible in areas of Ireland (with constant closure loops now): Merseyside on 1485 and Cornwall on 630 (and the weaker 657)

I also heard the Radio York announcement on 666. It was around 7 am when the propagation was good. Cornwall on 630, and Merseyside are strong in Dundalk. I might listen out for a few more of these.

BBC Radio Scotland on 585 kHz is closing. Announcement loop running. Also closing low power transmitter on 810.

Nearly fell off my chair when I read this about 810khz, as its the national frequency for Scotland on MW.... but turns out its just the RedMoss Transmitter just out-side Aberdeen for now... (built in 1938 by the way) and the 810khz is still National freq.in Scotland... thanks god as I tune in regularly for the news from Home.

There are still two 100 KW transmitters on 810. This is a fairly up to date link for all current MW and LW transmitters in the UK. I have heard Forth 2 the commercial station on 1548 with a strong signal at times.

Yes WesterGlen Transmitter Just outside Falkirk. Grid ref:NS868773
and Burghead Transmitter North east Coast Grid ref: NJ125685.
