just reading a few things leo is saying(sorry if this has been answered iv only read bits), the people unemployed from the pandemic are having their payments risen to 350? iv recently become unemployed about 4/5 weeks ago so it's 203 currently for me, are these payments also rising to 350 or are we expected to stay on the 203?

No any jobseekers before last week, payments remain the same.

Only people now losing their job due to covid 19 are eligible for this covid payment of €350 per week

    Unfortunately! Lol.

Because if you were already unemployed , your income has changed at all.

    Very unfair.

Those on JSB should be able to avail of higher payment also in this instance. Those losing a job through no fault of their own in the last 3 months are suffering same financial hardship.

Everyones financial circumstances change when they lose a job, and those suffering due to Covid19 should not be getting more than someone who lost a job in Feb of this year for instance (and they have built up sufficient PRSI contributions).

You could have the following ridiculous scenario:

John is 1 month in to a 3 month contract working in a coffee shop (started on 1st March). He is let go 2 weeks later. John can claim €350 due to Covid19.

Sean has worked in a factory for 2 years and is let go in late february, he can only claim €203 (despite having built up the requisite PRSI contributions).

It's never going to be fair for everyone. FV have been forced into this by the measures the UK have taken.

I would agree that anyone who has stamps paid should be able to avail of the higher payment however you didn’t lose your job due to the covid pandemic so would have been in better position to apply for rent help or medical card etc than hundreds of thousands of people all at the one time who won’t be able to do such things

Sean gets redundancy though, that’ll help tide him over.

Not necessarily. Even if he had a 1 year contract.

Its unjust. Lumping JSA and JSB recipients together is crazy.

my income changed 4 weeks ago and now i have no way of getting the income i need so just like the people let go today, i am just as impacted by the whole situation but i don't get the extra handout to help, common sense never prevails.

Terribly unfair systym,i lost my job too because of covid 19 ,but if you were part time and already recieving a social welfare payment you are not entitled to anything either ,just your welfare payment reinstated to full amount, i was on disability so my payment was not reduced much as you are allowed e120 before its counted so im taking a big hit without my wages ,and no way to close the huge gap ,i thought my job was very secure .

Not only that, but your chances of getting a new job are now pretty bad for the next few months. It really sucks for you, I hope you can get something.

Same boat myself. let go end of Feb. On JSB, had requisite PRSI contributions so didnt need means tested benefit.

Our financial circumstances havent changed though apparently unlike people who lost jobs 2-4 weeks later.

Same prospects as our fellow jobseekers (who are on 150euro more) though. Zilch.

Every cloud has a silver lining, plenty of new jobs available right now including public service.

Lots of businesses had no choice to close and let their staff go (mine being one). Hopefully many of those jobs will be given back after all this, and people will have spending power to stimulate the economy.

So is there any increase whatsoever for people in receipt of job seekers Benefit and not allowance?

People on the 203 are probably getting HAP or other benefits from the state and a medical card.
The Covid payment is only temporary and will they get a medical card and HAP?

    Just wondering?

If what I said is true, I dont see how its unfair as overall getting 203, hap and a medical card would outweight the covid payment.

Massive presumption that everyone on JSB is getting these ancillary services. You presume everyone let go prior to this is in the rental market.

I know I don't qualify for anything beyond the standard rate of €203 (based off PRSI contributions). HAP and the like are no good to me as I have a mortgage and was let go in late february.

I heard the minister this morning speak about this range of ancillary services supposedly catered for under the extra €150 and how we supposedly had time to draw on all of these services. They do not apply to everyone. Alot of lower wage workers (some even part time) are getting 350euro and probably had the medical card anyway due to being on a lower wage. Not all of course, but some.

I fully expect this to be extended beyond the 6 weeks mark too, no chance people are going back to work that soon.

Multiple people on €203 are not entitled to HAP or a medical card . Why would you presume that

Only thing I hope is that they will go on with the fuel allowance for a couple of weeks more
Children at home so have to heat the home what we normally not doing when they are at school

There is a tax relief afaik only for people working at home that will have increased gas/elec/internet bills

although i suppose everyone will have bigger bills due to the isolation.
