Where to get battery for key fob? Renault Clio

The battery in my key fob has died. I have a second key but the battery is likely the same age (182 car). Went to local Advance Tyre and they said Halfords is the only place to get one. They're closed now for the forseeable and don't have an online presence. Does anyone know where I could possibly get a battery, terrified that with the proposed lockdown that I won't even be able to get out in the car. There isn't a Renault dealer near me (south Dublin) and they're likely to be closed anyway,

I got replacement batteries for my Captur in Tesco - they were the small button batteries.

Is there a local car parts shop? That's where I get mine. The last time I was in the guy said they are getting more and more sales of these as they dont last due to constantly interacting with the electronics in the car.

Depends on the exact size of battery. Some you can get easily in supermarkets, or failing that a DIY store like Woodies. Otherwise try a motor factors.

    What size is it?

Did you try the second key. I had the same problem 6 months ago. Just got my spare key from a drawer which worked fine and got a new battery in the one that had went. My car is a Nissan Qashqai.

Typical sizes like CR2032 or CR2025 are easy to get in the likes of Tesco and other major supermarket chains. Other sizes - buy online.

Even micksgarage stocks them, not a massive range though. And not cheap either.

a lot of the 2 euro shops stock them. just get the number off the battery.

If no go at Tesco or motor factors, go to a big Boots, if it's not a cr2032 or 2022 etc. Then probably an equivalent hearing aid or camera battery.

Check the manual for the number

The pound shops all sell blsiter packs of the button batteries. Don't go near a jewellery store, they're probably all closed now anyway.

Euro giant are particularly good at having a pack set with various battery sizes that fit most remotes. Usually located near the tills.

Is it keyless start or do you need to put the key into the dash to start?

I’m having the same problem. Constant warning indicator on dash about replacing battery. 2015 VW CC originally a year or so ago and got the battery replaced while in with the main dealer. Was using the spare key.

Both keys now need new batteries. They seem to last pîssing time.
Key stays in the pocket all the time.

    They’re pretty easy to change.

My Skoda is supposed to take CR2025 battery, I swapped with CR2032 which being thicker has more capacity, still fits in the key body. not sure if this works in a Passat key.

if not Dealz or other euro shops then I would recommend eBay.

Any motor factors should have these batteries.

Had the car in today getting some work done on it and they changed the battery out of the fob at no extra cost. I know the battery is only a euro or two but still a nice touch all the same.

AVOID, I repeat AVOID Motor factors.

I went to motor factors and they wanted €10 for two batteries. I bought same batteries on eBay for fraction of the price.

Don't forget this is Ireland, everything is expensive. Don't shop local, buy online.

They’re shockingly bad though, I got 4 months out of one.
At least you get lots of them!

Heaven forbid you would pay more for convenience and to support local business

We're okay now with the motor factors open but my battery died just at the start of lockdown. Will always have a spare at the ready in future, you can become immobile very quickly with these! Think I prefer the traditional keyfob, my daughter inadvertently locked the flippin thing in the car last week, just walked away and the car self-locked - not a good look. Thankfully had a battery in the spare.

I can't think of anything more convenient than ordering stuff online. You do absolutely nothing, just click and pay.. then just wait till it arrives. You also save heaps of money, I save hundreds of euros every year by shopping online.

eBay is open 24/7 365 days a year. Lockdown doesn't apply to eBay.

Not too convenient if you need the battery now and say, no spare...

I got some late last year in Mr Price for a couple of Euro so they are readily available outside of a Motor Factors. In fairness, the ones I got are cheap so I am not expecting them to last out the year.... You get what you pay for. :)
