I'll be dropping off a bunch to my mother in law tomorrow. I'm working at 6am and they will be inside her porch for her when she gets up. I'll be wiping down the packaging with antibacterial wipes too, just in case.
Just cos we can't see them, doesn't mean we can't show appreciation!

You gonna wipe down every petal and stem too???

If your only means of appreciation of your mother is to send store bought flowers at 50% discount..... Well....

Theres so much more you could do than this irresponsible move

I haven't bought anything for her, we're heading to the local woods today to pick daffodils and we've already got crêpe paper ready to wrap them in. Her card is already made by the kids as part of they're "homework".
It's costing us nothing so maybe we're cheap that we won't be buying 50% off flowers?
The elderly aren't just vulnerable in all this, they're also lonely so something small like that can act as a nice little pick me up on a tough day.

if people dont like a bargain then best to ignore the thread and leave it rather than mug it off as thats what kills bargain alerts and stops people from posting

    Think of the almighty dollar!!!
Is that what this is resorted too?

People have no idea how many bare hands have touched these flowers before they buy them.
They are planning on giving them to their mother's who are invariably at more risk than they are.
Mothers will put their nose down and smell these flowers. Pretty much EXACTLY the perfect way for this virus to spread.

    Just stop and think people.

Why are they discounted so much in the first place??
Because responsible people know better than to buy them.
If you do, more fool you.

Youd be much better off preparing a potted plant for your mother, for her to mind over the next few weeks of her distancing

Antibacterial wipes are as much use as a cock flavoured lollipop against a virus.

Sure in that case then how do you expect anyone to eat anything? Every thing you possibly put in your mouth has been handled by someone else ffs I'd be more scared of dying from starvation than the virus if I had your stupid outlook

Err, not every mother in the country is elderly and/or high risk. Some of us are demented 20/30 and 40 year olds trying the WFH while home schooling our disease spreading children.

Most antibacterial wipes are also disinfectants. Coronavirus is quite delicate and easily broken down.

Honestly, you sound like you're just dying for an argument. I understand the current situation has people a little wound up but this is a discussion and the poster was making a valid point. We don't cook everything we eat. Chances of catching anything from food is also low.

According to the Italian Health Service the median age of people requiring intensive care is 43 so I wouldn't be too complacent. Younger people may survive this illness but the chances of long term damage to heart, lungs, kidneys etc is high. However, take your chances if you are confident this doesn't apply to you or your family.

Rather than take information from fakebook, I suggest that you read hse and WHO information.

You might educate yourself on how viruses work and how they don't survive on surfaces for more than 20-30 minutes except in laboratory conditions.

But then you may not have reason for you faux anger

Never been tempted to, never been tempted to use an antibacterial wipe against a virus either - I just wash my hands with soap and water, or if there’s no water available, an alcohol based gel.

You might want to try educating yourself too.

WHO/HSE would not be naive enough to make any definitive statement about such a relatively newly discovered, unstudied virus like you claim they have. You've fallen victim to what you yourself hate because you've heard such numbers on social media, through word of mouth or you have incorrectly generalised the surface survival time of all viruses.
