    Hi folks,

    Genealogy huh....I was going to bed over 3 hours ago and for some reason stumbled upon Ellis Island webpage.....and from there.....

    Ye know the story!

    Fascinating stuff. Disappointed to see so many sites charging for info. But that's the world we live in I guess.

    There are often ways to find the paid stuff on other sites. You will find many people with subs to paid sites also very willing to do lookups. Plus the paid sites have occasional free days or weekends.

    Always a way. Don't give up.

    Many of the Irish sites are giving it away for free though.

    I actually think the model of paying a very small amount is better - if the National Archives had done this, we might have a census site that had more regular updates instead of it being identical (bar error corrections) since its launch in 2009.
