Question regarding insurance

We usually buy a yearly policy every June so we have a policy active now and also when we booked our August holiday a couple of months ago. So I would presume that since we had a policy active when we booked our holidays and well before this Covid-19 thing started, we are covered if the holiday is cancelled now due to government travel restrictions.

But what happens if we are not forced to cancel the holiday until after we "renew" (in reality, purchase a new policy) in June? Since that would be a new policy taken out after Covid-19, then I presume we are not covered if our holiday is cancelled after June? Am I correct in this? Just curious really to know how this works.

    Thanks.
