    Hi.
I'm looking to buy a new freezer, ideally a larder style. Could anyone recommend best type and best place to buy? Thanks

In Dublin there is very little difference in price between Power City, DID, Curry's and Harvey Norman.

Your biggest problem at the moment might be finding a retailer that has any freezer to sell!

The demand for freezers since last week has meant there's huge shortages.

That's a bit of a myth. There wasn't really a run on freezers. A quick powercity search shows how many they have in stock. They are averaging between 10 & 50 of each type in live stock

Ah, there was a run on freezers. Particularly chest freezers, of which PC has none either. Though I do see PC has some small under-counter freezers and built in freezers.

They also have larder freezers and that's exactly what OP is looking for

I fear that I'm not on the same page on what a larder freezer is. I had deemed it mean a tall freezer, be it under-counter or tall/upright freezer. And as I conceded, PC do have small under-counter freezers (a 500mm wide Belling) and tall integrated/built-in freezers.

Anyway, there's a possibility that more freezers will come into stock as the week progresses. Maybe freestanding tall freezers and so forth.

There wasn't a "run" on them.

They are very poor sellers. Most people prefer larder freezers.

You'd be lucky to find more than one or two models of chest freezer even in normal times.

Some people prefer the hype rather than the facts. Electric stores are fully stocked with freezers & op will see this as they go shopping. They have so many in stock I'm betting op gets a discount if he /she asks for one

Last time about 2 years ago on powercity.ie I looked for a chest freeezer and there was a at least 10 models, all stocked at differing levels. Today I looked there is zero, a shortage of them for sure.

    Where Y = toilet rolls.......

    Number of curries per week * 4 = y

Chest freezers are out of vogue. 2 years ago is a lifetime tbh.

There was a run on them, and still would be a run on them if stocks were available. Perhaps things differ in cities.

I work for an indy electrical retailer, so I see for myself.

Generally we'd stock 6+ different models and sizes of chest freezer, along with various other upright freezers. Both of which have become a problem to get stock from suppliers due to the demand. It's possible that suppliers don't keep massive amounts of freezer stock, especially in March when most freezer sales are before Christmas and projected manufacturing/orders are done prior to that.

Anyway, I fear I'm going OT now, PC have a couple of st/steel uprights in stock.

Relative spent the whole of last Saturday searching for a freezer in Galway. He did eventually get one but most places said they were sold out.
