Dell Latitude E6230 - screen won't turn on

I was given a tablet to work from home. When I switch it on, the keyboard and the various buttons do light up, but the screen won't. If I can get it to work, then I won't have to go into work tomorrow.

Does anyone have any suggestions, please?

    that's a laptop from 2012.

maybe the screen is just broken tbh.

was it checked before you got it?

2 possibilities I can think of.
Screen is working but laptop was previously connected to a monitor and is defaulting to monitor output. => try pressing the FN key with one of the function keys, maybe F5. Should have a symbol like a screen above it, in the same colour as the FN key (orange?)
Otherwise if the laptop is still working but the screen is broken, try connecting an external monitor. I think this model has hdmi (on the right hand side?) so you could try connecting it to a tv.

Thanks - I tried pressing fn+F8 (with the picture of the screen) but it didn't work, neither did all the other plausible buttons I tried. I can't connect it to anything at the moment, my telly is ancient. I tried to connect it to my personal laptop but the only thing that achieves is to reduce the size of the screen on my personal laptop.

I did, yesterday. It was working until lunchtime. Then IT had to tweak the settings of some programme and when they had that done they gave it back to me. I didn't check it again before going home, though.

Does it have some type of screen lock somewhere, perhaps?

When you turn it on how long have you left it on for?
Can you see a cursor or anything on the screen after a few minutes
Could be possible updates came through and was either turned off before they were downloaded fully or they are still installing so therefore causing issues with the screen.
Turn it on and wait a good while and see does anything happen.

Nope, black screen, no cursors, no sign of life whatsoever. I've left it on for half an hour (yesterday I changed the "sleep" settings to turn itself off after 1 hr instead of the usual 10 mins), nothing.

Ok turn off laptop so no lights. Remove battery using the two tabs to unlock position and either lifting or sliding battery out. With battery removed and no power lead in laptop press the power button a few times. Now reinstall battery and use power also and turn it back on.

Unfortunately that didn't work, but thanks for the suggestion.

When computer is on press windows button and letter P and see if you get options. If that fails try hdmi to a screen like tv or other.

That didn't work either, and I've no screen (TV or other) that has an HDMI socket. I guess I'll have to go into work tomorrow after all, so.

Thanks for your help all the same, folks.
