I'm just wondering for a relative.
They want to get there pension paid into there bank account instead of the post office.
They've a form to fill out.
Is there an online one available?
Does anybody know how long the process takes?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,

I'm in the exact same boat - I'm trying to stop my 79 year old mother queuing up every Friday morning at the post office to collect her pension.

I've tried searching online and ringing Social Protection but couldn't get through. I don't blame anybody - everybody is swamped.

We are in a crisis and people are doing their best.

If anybody can tell me how to do this I would really appreciate it.

    Thanks!

We wanted him to do it but the Post Office is one of his social outlets and loves it.

You can receive your payment at any bank or post office of your choice, direct to your current or deposit account by completing the following form.

    Thanks for the form.

It normally takes 2 to 3 weeks but I honestly couldn’t tell you at the moment how long.

In the event of a customer not being able to collect their DEASP payment personally at the Post Office a nominated person (Temporary Agent) can be nominated to collect the payment on their behalf.

When collecting a payment, a ‘Temporary Agent’ must produce the recipient's card as issued by the DEASP as well as their own valid photo I.D. e.g current Passport, Driving Licence or Public Service Card.

To become a Temporary Agent, the recipient must complete the required form which is available from the Post Office or you can download one below.

Post offices to pay two weeks' social welfare benefit to customers

A further range of measures designed to assist customers in managing post office visits while maintaining access to cash has been unveiled this afternoon by An Post.

The move comes after DEASP announced that welfare benefit payments in post offices will be brought forward and paid on a double (two-week) basis to reduce the need for customers to leave home during the COVID-19 crisis. This will enable customers or those nominated to collect payments on their behalf to maintain social distancing and plan shopping and household budgeting over a two-week period.

Commencing Monday 23rd March, the payment of Social Welfare in Post Offices will be brought forward by a week resulting in the payment of two weeks’ Social Welfare Benefit. The timing of the payment will be dictated by the customer’s particular scheme or benefit type.

For those schemes/benefits where the payment is not brought forward next week, these payments will be brought forward for double payment during the week commencing 30th March.

Post Offices are also implementing upgraded social distancing measures including earlier opening hours on traditional pension payments days, enhanced security and distancing measures in post offices and the extension of the ‘Temporary Agent’ facility for customers. Further protections for customers will be introduced in the coming days.

Its to reduce contact between people queueing up and to avoid handling cash because of covid-19. It only came in on Thursday.
