    Hey all.

Hope all keeping safe in these troubling times. Might be forced to commute to Blanchardstown from Sallins on account of covid19. Bike looks to be a viable option. Have a route from google maps but seems to run along the Royal canal from Leixlip to Clonsilla ( Greenmount )and vice versa on the way home.

Anyone have any experience of this section of the Royal?

    Thanks all

On a road bike? Surface isn't good enough IMO - grass and muck

Cheers. Road bike alright. Will scrap that route then.

Agree with this. Mud track mostly. Nice walk though, if you wanted to run it.

Have you tried using Komoot to plan a route?

this one is for road only, no gravel or offroad.

You probably have a rout sorted by now but if not then I suggest the following rout from Leixlip .

    Leixlip
    Confey
    Westmanstown
    Clonsilla
    Blanch.

As others have said the canal bank in that area consists of grass and dirt tracks which are dry at the moment but one shower of rain will change that to muck. Also one section after Confey is currently closed.
If you are happy and confident on the road from Sallins to Leixlip then the last few miles are quite similar if perhaps a bit busier .

I would never discourage cycling but are you aware that there is a bus link between Nass and Blanch ( Rout 139 ) which passes through Sallins.
