So here we are with all cultural venues ( including public libraries ) shut and exhortations that all must socially isolate.

This morning did I hear two advertisement at around 9am on RTE radio 1 ?

    1. Advertising some event taking place in some library and then moving to another library

    2. Advertising a sale at Harvey Norman

Are these events taking place behind closed doors ?

Perhaps they were broadcast to show what eejits advertisers are.

Maybe I just imagined it all.

Did anyone else hear them ?

( No, I dont know what colour the advertisements were )

It's ridiculous, but the advertising contracts were probably negotiated ages ago and can't just be cut.

Some local radio stations might get away with that as an excuse. It just doesnt wash when the station is the main state run news station.

The ad was run again this evening before the 18:00 news.

This discredits RTE Radio 1 as a source of reliable public information.

It's not really "state-run", and the editorial staff don't choose the ads.

Not relevant, but since you raise the topic :

Who decides funding for it ?
    Who owns it ?
    Who set it up ?

I dont see that this has anything to do with the editorial staff of RTE.

yeah I can see the point alright. RTE were one of the stations looking down their noses at all the people in the pub in Temple Bar that were congregating a bit closely. But for them to earn advertising revenue based on the punters contravening of those same rules is a bit rich.

"State-run" implies that government officials have a direct role in the management and output of RTÉ. They don't.

The Harvey Norman sale applies for home delivery. The other ad likely wasn't cancelled as it was probably a freebie.
