    Hi Folks,

I dusted off my desktop PC from 9 years ago as it looks like im going to be working from home for the foreseeable future. With that in mind id like to upgrade to something capable of playing modern FPS games. I am particularly interested in the new modern warfare multiplayer.

    Here's the specs

    16GB-Kit GeIL Black Dragon PC3-12800U CL9-9-9-28 (DDR3-1600)
Antec Atlas Server Gehäuse, ATX, 550W
    ASRock H67DE 3 (B3), Sockel 1155, ATX
    ASUS ENGTX560 Ti DCII TOP/2DI/1GD5, 1024MB,PCI-Express
    BenQ G2420HD
    Intel Core i5-2500K Box, LGA1155
LG DH18NS schwarz bare SATA II
MS Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit SB-Version Englisch
WD Caviar Green 1,5TB Sata 6Gb/s

Can anything here be salvaged / built on ?

    Budget €300-600

    Cheers

Keep the RAM, mobo, CPU, HDD.

Add a 500-1000Gb SSD, new PSU, new case, new CPU cooler.
    Get an RTX 2060 GPU.
Install Windows 10 fresh to the SSD and use your Win7 key.

    Or.

Sell the lot and build a 6 core Ryzen new.

Just build a new PC with something like Ryzen 2600 and RX570 for the €600. Run all new games at high settings, something like COD at ultra effortlessly.

Don't keep the 2500K, it's totally obsolete. Modern Warfare isn't very CPU demanding but even that will be pegged at 100% in Modern Warfare and you will get regular stuttering and drops.

Other popular FPS shooters like Battlefield are pretty much unplayable on a 2500K (even if overclocked)...adding an RTX2060 to a 2500K would be total madness IMO.

If you really can't be arsed getting a new PC (and I genuinely understand that completely), your board supports 3rd gen so it's actually still fairly salvageable despite the age.

Get an i7-3770 2nd hand for €70, and throw in an RX570, you would be grand for stuff like COD or Battlefield on ultra with some headroom, it's because the i7 has extra threads over the i5 and games are now hungry for more cores/threads....this is why an i7 from 2011 is often better than an i5 from 2016 in newer games.

Personally, if you're OK with a new build, I would just build a whole new system with a Ryzen 2600, 16gb ddr4 3200mhz ram and an RX570, it wouldn't come to much more than €600 (not even counting the €200 or so you would get for your old machine).

If you fancy incorporating the €200 mentioned above, for €800 you could throw in a GTX1660 Super and be grand for everything at ultra really.
